What are the plugs like? oiled?
Atleast check the lambda sensor is working or if you can't do that get one from a scrappie and change it, then either pay for an emmissions test or go back and have a partial re-test MOT (half price) within 10 days.0 -
You'll make the most money selling it in bits, it'll be worth a few hundred like that.
The other option is an engine swap.Happy chappy0 -

Where your logic is failing is that the *MOT sensor* is reading low lambda which does mean running rich.
The car lambda sensor might be reading high (stuck on high) thus the ECU compensates by riching the mixture.0 -

Ah, I was under the impression that the lambda reading was that of the car's sensor. What goes around - comes around0
