I'm not sure what a floor length outfit is for a MOB, would a maxi dress be ok? If you they aren't that expensive (depending where you look and you can wear them again in Summer or on holiday. Team it with a lovely hat or fascinator and it would look lovely.

Do you know what colour you would like?

Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • Have you looked in Monsoon- they have some lovely dresses in their sale.

Also places like debenhams, john lewis, house of fraser- im sure they must have a few lovely dresses in their sales.

im sure if you let us know what colour and size some people may be able to give you a few ideas.

My Nanny has just bought a lovely outfit from Eastex, reduced from £199 to about £60.
Mum got hers from Roman Originals, her dress was £30 in their summer sale.

Are you a young MOG, or a more mature one? I'm 47 and would not be shopping at the likes of Eastex if either of my sons were getting married and gave me those guidelines, I'd be looking in somewhere like Monsoon.
  • I bought my stepmother of the bride outfit from Frasers in their sale. It is a full length dress from Coast £180 reduced to £90 with an extra 20% off total £72 and a lovely bollero style jacket from Occasions in Frasers which was £75 with 20% off total £60. The jacket was a bit of an extravagance but I know I will get a lot of wear out of it.
Debenhams Debut is another great place to look in the January Sales. It also has a Coast. She is also getting married in June :)

Wow, I would never have dreamed of telling my parents or in-laws what to wear!
My Mum got a gorgeous pink knee length dress from a little botique - quite fashionable rather than "mumsy"
And my MIL got a nice shift dress & bolero from Phase Eight.
  • My mum got hers from an outlet store called Boundary Mill. She wanted to get something fancy from a local bridal store for over £250 but I wouldn't let her! Something very similar was £50 at the outlet!! It was reduced from £150 and was gorgeous.

Incidentally, it was a fitted dress and just below the knee. She looked hot! Not in a mutton way, she is only 50 after all! MIL wore a dress from Coast.

Agree with others - get to Coast/Monsoon sales and you're sure to find something!

I meant to add earlier, my Mum did ask me what I wanted her to wear & if she should avoid any colours etc, and I told her that she should wear what she likes & feels comfortable in.
Likewise MIL asked if I wanted her to wear a hat / fascinator, and bought a big one asshe thought she ought to, but that she felt odd wearing. I told her not to wear it if she didn't like it, and she happily returned it!

So OP, if you'd rather wear something else than has been suggested, I'd say go ahead & pick something you like.
It's better to have someone looking happy with what they're wearing than having them looking uncomfortable in photos.
