Hi
Can anyone help? My dell 725 printer will not work with my new PC. I guess its not compatible with Windows 7. Its just a basic but suits me fine. Would prefer not to buy a new one if possible.
Thanks

If you are using the 32 bit version of windows 7 then try this Microsoft page. If you do a google search for 'dell 725 windows 7' you will find other possible tries also
If you are using the 64 bit version of windows 7 you may be stuffed (I think that is the technical term).
My mum bought a new windows 7 computer and I couldn't get her dell 725 to work with it even using driver downloads such as this. But worth a try.
In the end she purchased an Epsun stylus s22 printer for about £25. However you do need to do your research before buying a new printer. For example most of the costs of cheap printers such as this are in the refills. However not a bad choice for someone who has managed to get out of the habit of printing things and so needs a printer for very occasional use only.I came, I saw, I melted0 -
Have you installed drivers for it?
Go here http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/uk/en/ukdhs1/DriversHome/?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1 and speciufy whether you are using 32 or 64 bit windows 7. Download and run setup on the files. That should fix it.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Thanks for the replies. Bit thick :embarasse how do I check if 32 or 64?0

Just looking thru the forums, lots of users of 64 bit windows 7 seem to have problems. See this thread http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3528/p/19306914/19598719.aspx#19598719I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. Also its not a Dell tower I have now. Not sure if that makes a difference.0

Start Menu > Right click on Computer > Properties
Should be the 4th entry under System.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
Thanks all its a 64 bit and looks like Im buying a new printer! Any ideas for cheap, basic and cheap replacement inks as I am secretary for residents association so I have to print out lots of letters, minutes etc. No need for copier or anything fancy.0

Well, this is cheap 'n cheerful http://www.amazon.co.uk/Epson-S22-Printer-Individual-Technology/dp/B003QP3UD0/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1325615377&sr=1-1 , but I'm told that they drink ink, so be prepared to buy compatible cartridges.
I'm very impressed by canon printers these days (I'm a bookkeeper, work from home, use my printers a lot, have a canon inkjet and a canon laser printer), so think about this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-4800x1200dpi-resolution-Borderless-Printing/dp/B0036ORDSO/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1325615289&sr=1-7 or this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PIXMA-iP4950-Colour-Printer/dp/B005I9JQWQ/ref=sr_1_13?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1325615559&sr=1-13 which uses separate colour cartridges, so you don't end up chucking out half the yellow ink simply cos you have run out of red.
(Amazon just a convenient place to find the descriptions etc, other printer vendors are available) Oh, and don't have time to check right now, but you need to check that Win7 64 bit drivers are available of courseI try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
My 2 old printers work fine on Win7 64bit.
A Canon i560 and a HP 1320 laserjet, both at least 6 years old.
Have you tried, (from one of my old posts)Make sure the printer is connected and turned on, also assuming using usb.
Go to 'Devices and Printers', then 'Add printer', then 'Add local printer', then 'Use existing port'.
Click the down arrow at the end of the box, and select 'usb001' virtual printer port.
Click 'Next', then click the 'Windows update' box, and let it find the driver.
It may take a while, but it found the correct drivers for both of mine.
The Canon was first and a bit trial/error, but the HP was fine using the above method.
The preference pages for the printers look slightly different to the genuine software CD stuff, but all the options look to be present.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
You could also try http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&DriverId=R149373
A lot of Vista and Windows 7 drivers are the same. It is a previous version of the printer but very often you don't need the exact driver but just one that work; worth a shot before you buy a new printer.0
