You should put the above information into somewhere like lastminute.com or expedia.com and see what they are suggesting and price and then perhaps people on here can advise on the best option when you have an internet price on how you could do it cheaper.
In the nicest possible way, it is good if you do a little ground work first before others can help you find a bargain and suggest alternatives

Continental have flown from Bristol in the past to Newark EWR.
4th of July is likely to be more expensive than the 5th.

Your budget should get you a great deal. Agree, look on Expedia, Travelocity or ebookers or such company. (if you go through a cashback website you will earn a little bit of cashback too - usually about 2%) They can also add, attraction tockets, tours, transfers etc. I personally would go for a hotel in mid town Manhattan; Times Sq or somewhere close is always popular and puts you within walking distance of most of the shops/attractions.0

If you fancy flying with Continental they have set up a hoilday website at https://www.covacations.co.uk, some of the prices from the regional airports at not to bad, might be worth a visit and would certainly be better than having to transit through London. I'm afraid 4/7 for 5 night £1600.0
