Compensation for missed appointments

Hi,

I've been let down too many time by British Gas over the past 11 years, 7 times to be precise e.g. confirmed appointment via letter's and now text messages saying a engineer is going to visit on a set day.

And guess what happens they don't show.

So how many of you out there have also been let down by Gas & Electric companies.

I've only managed once to get the full amount of compensation for my time being wasted, which was back in October 2009 for the sum of £105 not the initial measly good will gesture of £20 - £50 they normally offer.

Now it's time to do it all again, so any advice would be appreciated.

£20 per missed appointment is industry standard
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Plus a further £20 for not giving it to you in two weeks without your asking for it.
  • I am claiming for a missed appointment, but the company I am in dispute with, require me to quote the specific statute/law that I am using. Can anyone help?

Its not a law, its a code of practise

The Guaranteed Standards Of Service (GSOS) are set by Ofgem. Suppliers not only have to adhere to them but also provide regular reporting to Ofgem.

Raise an immediate complaint. GSOS is a mandatory part of their licence and as such Ofgem require all staff who would work with appointment data & customer calls to be aware of it.

This covers missed appointments where they agree the appointment with you, they must notify you 24hrs before to avoid paying out.

It used to be £20 + a further one for not forking out within 10 working days, but it changed to £22 2 years ago.

I have just been offered £25 by National Grid Metering for a missed appointment, so it looks like that is the rate for 2012?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

£22 is still the rate. Its just the minimum, they can offer more if they wish. Some customers go ape when they get offered such a low sum for taking time off.

Are NGM paying you? The supplier is supposed to do it and claim it back. Suppliers and distributors pay customers under GSOS, agents don't. Still good its more though.

I am due to be paid direct by NGM-but it hasn't actually been paid yet.
