I thought the Sainsburys brand match finished on December 31st????

It was on a temporary basis to see how it fared in terms of increase of customers/spending etc and as its still on then i guess there was an increase somewhere.
  • Sainsburys brand match is good. But people are forgetting that Asda Guarantee to be 10% cheaper. The interesting thing is that most shoppers get tempted by offers so in reality you ended buying comparable items that you would do in other stores

Once I received a BM coupon for £1.34 and bought 5-6 branded items. Went on mysupermarket and found one item was 60p more expensive than Asda, two more were the same price and the rest were a combined almost £2 cheaper. I should have got a thing saying my shopping was £1.34 cheaper! Their mistake - my gain!
  • What a con this Brand Match promotion is. I'm posting here because many shoppers wrongly see the Brand Match promotion to mean that "Oh well, I may as well shop at Sainsbury's as it'll be the same as ASDA and Tesco' - I know that it only relates to 'brands' but many not so savvy consumers just look at the headlines. No wonder Sainsbury's did well over Christmas with this misleading promotion - designed to con consumers.

    Here is my experience:-

    - Spent £70.08 in-store and on checking out got the 'Brand match' ticket informing me that my shop had saved me 62p. Only Brands bought were Ocean Spray cranberry juice and Pomegreat pomegranite juice. The Cranberry juice was half price normally £1.24 but now 62p so I had found the 62p brand match.

    - But the Pomegreat juice was £1.39 and I know that Tesco is selling it for £1.28 - an 11p overcharge.

    - I went to Customer Service and asked her to tell me how the brand match scheme worked.I am not that daft but it was as clear as mud. I explained that I had been overcharged 11p for the pomegranite juice - my simple logic was that surely the overcharge should have been offset against the 'saving' of the 62p. This would make my brand match saving on the shop of 51p (62p minus 11p). I would still be winning so would have nothing to moan about. She looked at me as if I was from Mars and she handed me the leaflet on the promotion - clear as mud, and refers you back to customer service. I gave up.

    - When I got back home I emailed Sainsbury's explaining how I thought the scheme worked per the above. Yeterday I got an email to advise that a Brand Match specialist was investigating and would respond. Fair enough. But:-

    - Last night I visited Tesco. Yes the Pomegrate juice is still on sale for £1.28 (Sainsbury's £1.39) but and the branded Cranberry juice is on sale at £1.24 (Sainsbury's 62p). But guess what Tesco have it on offer BOGOF so you get two for £1.24 or 62p each - the same as Sainsbury's.

    - There was never any saving in my situation. The 62p Brand Match was totally fictional - I actually ended up paying 11p more across two branded products! What a total con.

I'll report back on the gobbledegook I expect to receive from Sainsbury's.

    Regards

I've taken advantage of the brand match to buy wine that's a bit cheaper in Asda but my Asda branch hasn't had any in stock for weeks so it suits me. I'm careful only to buy that and anything I know to be really good value.

What I don't understand is why sometimes I'm also given a voucher for £2 off £20 or £3 off £30 (those do only last a week). I had the £2 one when I only bought a bag of beansprouts! It's just that I don't want to be forced to spend £30 (main shop done in Aldi or Lidl). Is it random or does it vary with how much you spend?

I was shopping in Sainsburys and realised that i needed some Pepsi I new Asda were selling it for £1/bottle on promo but couldnt be bothered to goto another supermarket so bought it there at £1.89/bottle, because of the price match I thought I would get 89p/bottle back, not the case my voucher was only £1.40 the reason for the lower amount i was told, Sainsburys price check Asdas normal price not the promo price.
  • They match deals too, if something is BOGOF in another store and you buy two in Sainsbury's you will have the difference refunded.

You have to remember though that the brand match coupon is calculated on your TOTAL SHOP, not on individual items. If you pick up 3 items which are all £1 cheaper in Tesco for example, but you pick up a 4th item which is £1 cheaper in Sainsbury's than everywhere else, your brand match coupon will be £2.

Help me here. I bought one branded item which was 62p cheaper and another brand which was 11p more. Both branded products within a £70 shop.

Following your logic the coupon would be 51p (offsetting one against the other). I only got a 62p coupon.

    I might just be thick.

  • It should have been 51p.

I have only ever had a brand match coupon once, me and some friends were going away for the weekend and we usually did our shop in Sainsbury's (as 2 of us are staff and we get discount) and Tesco (their pizzas are the best and they normally have a lot more offers on ready meals). However I wanted to see if the BM thing worked so we did the whole lot at Sainsbury's - certain things we bought which are normally always on offer at Tesco weren't at Sainsbury's, so I was intrigued to see how it would go. The total came to £50 something and we got a coupon back for £6.70.

I don't know why people complain about brand match working on the total of your branded shop rather than individual items, I can't see why they'd seriously expect to be refunded if other retailers are cheaper but not have it cancelled out when Sainsbury's came out best for price. It would put them out of business.

PS. I do work for Sainsbury's, but I normally shop at Tesco (despite getting discount at work).

Folks it all a big scam to get you to shop at one particular shop. My advice would be to forget it.

How much time and energy have you wasted investigating this just to save a few pence? How much of your precious day emailing the stores involved? How much time to post your experiences up here on MSE?

Was it all really worth it? I seriously doubt it.
