Sainsburys Brand Match
Options
When I bought a litre of Glenfiddich I found that I had paid £16 more in Sainsburys than I would have done in Tesco but I was only given a £10 Brand Match voucher.
When I queried this the answer was:
One of the terms of the Brand Match system is that the maximum value for a voucher we can issue is £10. This is due to the fact that it's very rare that a customer will save over £10 when doing there shopping at one of our competitors.
Is anyone else aware of this?
Also I asked if the redemption coupons could have an expiry date longer than a week as I shop once a month. They said no. I think I will be going to Tesco from now on.

All these so called brand match have their drawbacks. This is sainsburys. Asda need you to have a min spend and min comparable items whilst Mr T just picks and chooses what they want to match.
Best to use http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/#/shopping/findproducts.aspx?query=glenfiddich&store=sainsburys to compare on expensive items before shopping. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

the vouchers are valid for 2 weeks, not 1 week.
It's actually a good idea having a £10 limit on the amount considering what people were doing with the Tesco one when that was launched.0 -
Funnily enough I got caught out on the 1-week expiry date for this 2 days ago; when reading the T&Cs I also saw the "£10 maximum" so to answer your first question, yes I was aware
1 way to get round the time limit could be by buying small items (i.e. under £10 or your voucher limit) in a Sainsbury's Local. As for the £10 limit, I'd chalk it up as a "lesson learnt" and move on - besides, if you're a regular Glenfiddich drinker then wouldn't you have realised the big price increase?0 -
Ha! the whisky wasn't for me.
I shall certainly redeem the £10 and will have to put it down to experience.
Thanks wadewadewade as I now no longer have to wade through the Ts & Cs as I had intended.
Bottom line is that the consumer will never really win and loyalty isn't worth much at all in the shops' big scheme of things.0 -
For customers who shop once a week i think its a bonus for those weekly shoppers.0

I thought the Sainsburys brand match finished on December 31st????“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0

I was in Sainsburys last week and I thought I read that they had a minimum spend of £20 before they would do a brand check on your shopping
I would say that is another drawback of their promoApparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

Its always been a £20 spend“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
The Brand Match has been extended indefinitely.
I do the trolleys when the trolley lad is on holiday or a day off and see these Brand Match coupons laying in the trollies. I can't use these as I will get dismissed. About a fortnight before Christmas, I saw a £7.82 coupon. I had to destroy it.
Good to womble if you or your partner don't work for Sainsburys.
When they did the trial in NI, the max coupon they dished out was £20.0 -
Hi All,
You are right - all these price promises have their drawbacks and they're not always made clear on advertising (without a magnifying glass!)
Before shamelessly exploiting the Sainsbury's Brand Match for the first time before Christmas, I checked all their Ts&Cs and was glad i did as i didn't realise their was a maximum £10 voucher. Am glad it's now permanent, as there are some very good things about it - I've found their price comparisons to be very accurate even though they're instant. Also, because the coupons are till-printed, they never get questioned by cashiers - if you hand over a large home-printed coupon at ASDA or Tesco, I guess there's a risk of that even if it's real! Some people are trying to pull a fast-one!
Was a very sad day yesterday, as I used the last of my £8off£40 coupons they sent me. Sainsbury's wanted me to spend £160 to get £32 off. Tesco Online tried to woo me with £20 off shops totaling £220 (Don't worry was never going to fall for that one!). I find it difficult to spend£160 even at Christmas, so haven't been! I've been getting £8 off a £30 shop!
Have been spending part of each £40 shop on branded items that I knew to be up to £10 cheaper elsewhere and the rest of my shops have been all own-brand. That's another good thing about the Brand Match - you know that unlike at ASDA, there'll be no nasty surprises! Go in with a list of branded items to buy and don't stray from this. You can add to this, all their special offers on their own-brand stuff, safe in the knowledge that it won't eat into your coupon!
The only downside when doing this - the cashier comments on your very large coupon. "I've never had one that large before" and is interested in what I bought. I say, I think it was these things, before another coupon comes out. Mouth agog, she just had to go and notice that it's bigger than the last. Cue shrug of shoulders as i get on my way!
Thanks for all your tips as i learnt it all from you!
