Do I have to pay for Gas?

Hi all.
I work in a commercial property for family. We do not use any Gas what so ever here however there is a meter installed on the premises.
It may sound like a stupid question, but is it necessary for me to pay for gas if we don't use any in the first place?
Can we not just state to our current Gas supplier, we do not want to renew our contract - and not enter into a contract of any sort with anybody..?
Worst case scenario - I can remove the meter however in the future should the need arise, to re-install a meter would cost several thousand pounds. I can't seem to find anyone who installs pre-pay gas meters into commercial properties.
Please help...

It does not cost thousands to install a meter. They can remove the meter cap the supply and then reinstall the meter later at very little cost.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.0 -

But in the meantime, if there is a meter then you will have to pay the standing charge. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks for you reply
residential cost is ~£50, it will vary by supplier / region and I guess may cost more if its commercial.0 -
why not switch to a tariff with no standing charge also some suppliers pay you for getting gas or leccy from them in a credit to your account at the end of each year npower pay £100 for both so if you dont use any gas you dont pay a standing charge and they pay you0

U16 o r U25 meters cost £300plusDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

business tariffs dont tend to have zero standing chargesDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
