Wind Speed and Rain Fall

good luck with this one. i suffered roof damage about 3 weeks ago after a very windy night. when i contacted my insurance company they came back with a met office report saying that winds were only recorded at 37mph in my postcode that night. (i definitely think it was much fiercer than that).
they only class storm damage as above 45mph apparently (may be different from company to company?)
It was exactly the same for us about a month ago, I am sure the wind was much stronger than they said, They were only quoting about 38mph and our company also says has to be more than 45mph.
Having paid out for all the repairs that time I am just hoping we won't have to this time, the nearest weather station showing on the met office site is quite a way from here but last night/ early morning had wind speeds less than 45mph again but gusts were in the 50's so now depends if it is the gusts that count or not.0 -
Please let us know whether you have any luck with this one - I had a leak a few months ago from the lead channel above our bedroom window (1930's style house). Didn't know about weather stuff then. Insurance co said was a maintenance thing, so we have had a temporary repair done until we can afford to have it done properly.
Today I woke up to find the other lead channel is leaking! Could cry!
The builder who did the repair last time said that we may need a whole new roof and so it wouldn't be worth repairing that bit properly. We've only lived here a year, and the homebuyers report didn't pick that up so this has come as a bit of a shock!
Bloomin' Roof!
Will do, mind you it can depend if your roof is 'in good condition/well maintained', when they surveyed ours for the last claim they said it was in good very good overall condition apart from a small gap and some problems with the guttering, these have been resolved so what's gone on up there now I have no idea and I am not getting on a ladder myself to go up and look, I am just guessing that the horrible wind & rain last night could have caused it but even if did it then comes down to if the weather fitted into their definition of a storm.0 -
Just found out it has to be more than 47mph and looks like they use the 'gusts' speed as their records show we had 53mph last night.
So now it is established that we did have storm conditions last night they will come & check if their was damage that was caused by the storm. As our roof had just been repaired I imagine it must have been.
Thank you very much to everyone who posted and I hope anyone else with roof damage (or any other storm related problems) gets it resolved quickly.0 -
You are lucky we had over 90mph this morning. Four storms in less than 10 months, nightmare.0
