    there is no damage to his hard drive he is trying it on. If the product had caused that much problem with his PC then he would have not asked for a new one, he would have just wanted his money back. He will have to abide by what Ebay say. If Ebay find in his favour I would then open a claim against the person you bought the item from. I see no reason why you should be out of pocket in this.

    TBF I dont believe a caddy would just get that hot and melt itself and the HDD - I reckon he is trying it on.

    I beg to differ! I bought a HDD caddy on eBay and the first time I used it I brushed my hand against the drive and burnt myself quite badly. The drive was completely unusable after that.

    But as a private seller, caveat emptor. There's no way you'd be considered liable for any consequential losses.
