Lies always have a way of coming back to bite you on the backside!! Don't be a fool, tell the truth, the consequences of being found out are simply not worth it.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

alot been going on in my absence, was watching a film, got plenty of free time on my hands!
please don't think i'm delibrately trying to wind people up, as i can see i'm swimming against the tide here, but i genuinely don't see how HR could possibly find out how it occured. when i got treated i stated i'd been running and changed direction too quickly, didn't mention football. But maybe telling the truth is the correct play, if my 2 mates hadn't mentioned their experiences I wouldn't have though twice about saying exactly what happened, without contemplating any potential comeback. But with a big outlay at xmas and a big year ahead, the thought, albeit extremely small, of losing that kind of cash weighs heavy
a few answers ( i haven't worked out how to do multiple quotes)
i'm not on facebook my work mates don't know how it happened and my "real" mates don't know my work mates - i live 40 miles from work
metatarsal bones do mainly break through football - not exclusively though
been at my work for 7 years and should be off for 6 weeks maybe more if i need an operation (50/50)Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson0 -
If i had to balance the slight risk of losing a tiny bit of sick pay Vs getting sacked for lieing and losing a bucket load of cash...! I know which i would go for
6 weeks salary take home ~£3300
6 weeks SSP ~£500
by anyones standards that is not "a tiny bit of sick pay" but i see your point.Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson0 -
Stick with the truthit's just a ... game with friends,
Don't dress it up with excusesNo, I don't play for a team or anything, .... casual ... I see it as exercise, same as golf or going to the gym.
You'll have to take your chances with the sickness policy. As I see it, no resonable sickness policy can penalise you for an adhoc kickabout. But if it is a 'formal' match - a fixture, it becomes more greyish and a very dark shade if you are moonlighting as a part time pro in the Conference LeagueHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. if 3.5k is 6 weeks pay
then it stands to reason that 6 months without work as a result of being fired for gross misconduct would cost you say 15K..
15K Vs 3.5K is where i get my "tiny bit of sick pay" line from..!

Your most likely right, this could possibly be the crux of the matter, my mate the surveyor plays for an amateur team, regular training and saturday/wednesday games. He did injury himself playing and was told by a fellow employee to say he fell down the stairs!Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson0 -
I know very little about football, or medicine, but I would link a metatarsal injury with a football injury as I remember listening to a news reports about a celebrity footballer, David Beckham or similar, on BBC News a while back and being annoyed that it was considered important enough to be newsworthy. So don't assume your colleagues won't make the link too. I'd tell the truth, if they asked how it happened.0

OP, look at it this way - you trip over at work and injure yourself, rendering you unable to work for a few months. Your employer says "oh, just say you tripped on the way into work" meaning you won't get your full entitlement for any compensation just to save them the hassle of paperwork etc.
You would be jumping up and down then and demanding they tell the truth.
Obviously, in reality they would do what they were legally obliged to do, so the least you can do is be honest!0 -
And what if you had fallen over drunk and broken a bone in your foot on New Year's Eve - would employers pay sick pay for that? Far less healthy than a kick about:) . I'm with the tell the truth brigade - if it was just a casual game then I would hope they will pay your sick pay.
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!0
