Tumble Drier not heating up properly

I've got an Zanussi tumble drier that isn't working properly. I think it is about 7 years old. It's heating up slightly but the air isn't as warm as it should be and things are taking twice as long to dry. I've checked the buttons and it's still on the hottest setting, but it doesn't make any difference to the temp when you put it on cool.

Anyone got any ideas on what this would cost to fix?

I've had a quick look round the net and found this:

and I'm busy trying to decide if it is worth getting the old one repaired, or if it's worth buying a new one.

Definitely need one and I know they are not economical and all that, but I can't stand the damp washing hanging round the house.
Here I go again on my own....

Possible element or thermostat fault? No one can tell you the cost of the part without knowing the model number.
If you do replace it, I'd get a decent model, not Candy or Electrolux brands.

    It's a Zanussi TD 4112 W.

Forgot to say I took the hose off and the little flap on the side, and cleared out all the fluff but that didn't help.

Is your tumble dryer a vented type?

Do you feel warm air expelling from the vent when the machine is on?

If not, the fan may need replacing.

Had the fluff from the filter never been cleared out? That is a fire hazard:eek:

I have a Whirlpool Tumble dryer and it stopped heating up a few weeks ago (I only noticed when clothes had been in there for over an hour and were still damp).

It was the heating element at the back that had gone. We replaced it ourselves, it cost around £40 to buy and about 10 mins to replace, much cheaper than buying a new dryer, which is what I was originally going to do.

Tumble is lovely and hot now!

I got the new part from here http://www.espares.co.uk/

Yes it's vented and I can feel the air coming through the grill outside.

Fluff is cleaned out regular - just meant I'd checked it in case it was blocked somewhere, but it wasn't.

It does sound like the heater to me. If it's blowing air out but the inside of the dryer is cold.

It's up to you if you want to take the risk. I did, for £40 it was worth it. :)

Thanks. I had a look at it would be £68 for the heater for mine, plus £3.99 postage and it looks a nightmare to fit judging by the comments others have left.

I'll do some more thinking first :D

Obviously it varies from model to model, but good luck with it. :)
