i have a slightly lighter skin tone than you, being somewhere between olive and caramel but do have a problem with facial hair

I am a fan of epilating, i use a single hair epilator that I bought off QVC it is painful at first but after a few attempts it is fine

I have tried other methods but find this is best for me, I hate being hairy but know that this is due to my colouring and there is nothing that I can do about it other than remove it

I would recommend you try epilation as a quick method as I find that a few minutes now and again is all it takes to keep mine under control

I'm dark haired but very fair skinned and have a problem with my top lip, I've tried waxing and creams but found them too painful and the creams burn my sensitive skin. I now swear by the Epicare wand, it works like threading and is so easy to do and you can use it every day. But don't buy the cheaper imitation wands on Ebay (normally from China) make sure you buy a genuine Epicare, it's so much better. Cheapest I could find was £10.99 including postage from Modern Gent.

    Hi Momoney11,

Another vote for threading. And don't worry, they must have seen cases worse than you. I also agree to not go in the week you are due especially for sensitive areas like upper lips

Try looking up the Channel 4 program Embarrassing Bodies. They had a lady with excessive hair - hirsutism. There can be many medical factors for facial hair, so it is definitely worth going back to your GP. The doctor could prescribe topical creams or anti-androgen medication, as well as checking for conditions such as PCOS.

As this is facial hair, definitely thread. It's best to learn for yourself as a MSE option (google Youtube). Constant waxing - whilst effective - will loosen your skin so avoid it whatever you do. There is a licensed cream for hirsuitism but forget it as results are poor.

The 'Vaniqa' cream worked for me, I was given it by my GP in February last year. You do need to use it twice a day for a month or so before you see results but it does work.

You can't stop using it though as the hair just grows back normally. As a woman with dark hair and tanned skin, I have tried multiple options but ended up with the cream as the least painful and as it's on prescription and lasts a long time, it's not that expensive - £7.40 instead of the £70 it retails at!

Forgot to mention I have also tried one or two of these at home laser hair removal systems: http://www.riolaserhair.com/
They did approximately sod all for me. It *may* work if you literally just have one or two hairs, but as the area covered by the wand is tiny and I have hundreds of unwanted hairs :( it always took hours to use (which would be fine if I had seen any difference while using it, but I did not).

Thats good to hear from someone it has worked for, ive got to go to the docs to talk about this and pcos so I will mention the cream and see if she will prescribe it, worth a go isnt it, nothing ventured nothing ganed. I suspect they will try and put me on the pill again which is what they usually do with pcos but ive tried different pills on varies occassions and the merena coil and my body just cant take the side effects so dont think its worth giving the pill another shot just for the hair problem.

Havent tried the epicare wand yet guys.......................so many choices not sure which one to try first! Doctors appointment is definately first port of call though as several have mentioned if the hair is because of hormones tha should be addressed first.

This thread has been such a great help, hope other people reading/lurking find it helpful too xx

Good luck Momoney11 - I am the same, I have been put on the pill many times but generally give up after a couple of months. I don't want to take pills that seem unnecessary to me and would much rather use the cream. The pill never stopped the hair anyway!

  • Hi, i am a mobile beauty therapist and specialise in Threading, eyelash extensions and tinting. TRUST ME...LOTS of people have facial hear threaded, i do a deal for a full face (problem areas such as lip, chin, but ALSO including forehead and cheeks) for 25pounds, your best and cheapest option is to look for a mobile specialist. Also if you use the threading method regularly then your hair growth slows and decreases!!! xxx any q's just ask xx
