Teaching union subscriptions

Hello there,

I remember being told a few years ago that I could claim back the tax paid on my NUT subscriptions but I never got round to doing it. I have now signed up to the make £2012 in 2012 challenge and figure that there is some easy money to be made back if I do this. Has anyone done this before and if so could you give me some direction as to what I need to do?

Thanks,

Nuninge x

the NUT is an allowable body (see the list on the HMRC link) and you can backdate for tax relief on the last 6 years of subs

As a teacher you can also claim tax relief on your GTC fees. In addition if you have to teach PE you can claim tax relief on sportswear you buy for these lessons.

Thanks, I did a search but didn't find anything, so this is a great help.
