Laptop died - powerpack light flashing??? Help!

Hi
Hope someone can help, I'm not techie at all!
Was using my laptop this evening ( plugged into the mains) it suddenly switched off, tried switching it back on but nothing. Checked was all plugged into mains and noticed that the green light on the power pack was flashing.
It's an Advent laptop.
Any help gratefully appreciated! Am I looking at a trip to the shops & a new lappy???

Just googling advent and laptop etc (no model) I find a few results that indicate a flashing green light is indicative of it being in Suspended mode. Try just pushing the power button in to wake it. Short push, not a long held one, as that usually restarts it. Otherwise, try holding it down for little bit, and then turning it back on (i know, sounds silly, but I've had laptops that get "stuck" on hibernation/sleep)

If that doesn't do anything, remove the battery and plug it into the wall and see if you can turn it off/on, if so, battery is a problem, if not, you probably should see diagnostic measures (new psu to see if the old one is broken etc)

This is highly unusual - I have not come across this before? Have you tried unplugging the power pack from the mains and leaving it for a couple of minutes?

Were you near to the battery being discharged when you plugged the power pack in?

Try removing the battery from the laptop and waiting a few seconds and then putting it back in. Then try turning on the laptop without the power pack.

Generic replacement power packs for laptops can be bought from places like Maplin or online. However, as your laptop isn't working, you need to establish if a fault may have damaged the laptop too.

Try the above first and then post back.

Get hold of a multimeter and check the DC output from the charging pin on the mains adaptor.

Myser - thanks for your reply, I tried replying earlier but MSE wouldn't let me!
We tend to run the laptop via the mains so not sure what level the battery was at.
Last night I unplugged the mains lead from the laptop and the powerpack light stopped flashing and stayed on, as it would normally, not sure if this is an indication of anything???
I really appreciate you taking tbd time to reply, I will try what you suggested this evening and report back!
