Equifax bad credit is wrong, Long story

So after being declined for credit before christmas, and only being able to get 'bad credit' cards, i started to ponder 'why'...

I figured it's gotta be that I've never really used credit before, except for a littlewoods account, and a phone contract i had years ago. However, this evening I decided I wanted to find out and signed up to equifax.

Unfortunately for me, the info they have is wrong. All the stuff that is mine, is all up to date perfect, never had late payments, brilliant.

I unfortunately share the same first name as the woman who split my mother and ex-stepfather up many years ago. They married, thus giving her the EXACT same name as me.

Her terribly bad credit files have been linked to me! I guess cause we share the same name, and her husband used to be one of my legal gaurdiens, so we've both been tied to him as a relative.... But I've never lived where they do, not even in the same city or county. And our ages are COMPLETELY different... So why am I ending up with her bad stuff ruining my credit score & reputation? :(

It also stated the ex-stepdad as my financial allies because he's obviously got joint accounts with her....

Help!

I've emailed the help team to get it sorted, but it does seem so far fetched I dont know if their creap will be removed for me. Feeling so angry cause she ruined my family and we even moved cities and now years later she's ruining my credit score :/

you need to speak to them to clear this up, it can happy and will always cause you issues unless you sort it. Add a notice of dispute to your credit file to explain in the short term.

Though its weird you were linked to her in you never shared the same address....
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...

Please note if you have done this with one you will need to do it with all 3
  • Yeah never even lived in the same city, let alone same address. I have heard that this can happen though with people with the same names, even if everything else is different :/

Have looked on experian and thats all fine on there :/ its just the equifax one...

There is call credit as well. You may be worth putting a notice of correction on all 3 just incase

Don;t see how you can be linked unless the CRA's did it erroneously. Your differing dates of birth would prevent the file from showing up, UNLESS the firm mistakenly assumed there was a link. Ask them to break it as it is an error.

Sounds like the result of some errant debtor tracing. Dates of birth usually keep same-name data separate so there must be an anomaly somewhere. I'm sure Equifax will be able to put this right for you.

Same thing happened to my brother when he was growing up. Same name and address as his dad with only date of birth differing. I'd imagine it would be a reasonably simple removal once they check the details

I had the same initial as my mother in law and ALL her information was showing on my files even though we'd never lived at the same address.. I put it down to the fact that my husband shared an address with her before we moved in....
