Do you have a cash converters near to you? I took a lot of CD's and DVD's there last year and they gave me 50p per DVD and I think 20-30p per CD.

So it might be worth seeing which ones you can get more for through music magpie or cex and then taking the rest there?!
:D I love comping! Just waiting for the call from ITV! :D

I'm also looking to do the same thing. Music Magpie costed a full box of DVD's (about 60) as £50.

I'm thinking about doing job lots on eBay...

Job lots on Ebay are good. If you stick a rare gem in the pile also then you will bump up the price by loads.

i sold alot of my old dance music cds on ebay and they sold really well, better than i anticipated - mostly £1-£3 which i know doesnt sound like much but it was alot better compared to the 30p music magpie quoted me
might be worth trying ebay and seeing what you get and then getting rid of any that didnt sell on music magpie
it was alot quicker to put them on ebay than i thought too as you only need to put in the barcode and ebay fill in the details and usually a picture too
  • Local independent record stores usually give you a better rate if you have something "decent" to exchange (though what counts as decent is probably based on the staff's personal taste!).

Fopp are running a promotion at the moment where they give you £1 credit for every album you take in - doesn't matter how naff it is, as long as it's good enough condition to still play. I traded in a big pile of old stuff for about 10 of their £3 albums about a month ago, really pleased.
  • Try https://www.zapper.co.uk - it's a bit like music magpie, but as well as CD's and DVD's they also do books. I sent a load of books of to them today so will hopefully find out soon how good they are on pay outs.

Does anyone know what these companies do with the DVD's, games etc that people send them? Do they run an eBay / Amazon store...

Not sure, but I remember being a student at university and regularly seeing stall upon stall of second-hand CDs (DVDs weren't around then!) Actually, there's one at a local street market I sometimes walk past. Maybe that's where they all end up...?

MusicMagpie sells on Amazon, Play & ebay, and also have a sister business called something like "re-play" which sells the CDs on in physical stores, some have started to come into places like Poundland & The Works.
