I tried music magpie and wasn't very impressed. I tried selling some xbox games on there and they offered me just over £2 for COD black ops :/

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm brand new to posting on here so please forgive me if I post anything I shouldn't. But as these forums and the MSE site have helped me so much, I thought I'd post my recent experience of selling old books/CDs in case it helps anyone else. I got advice from this site on selling on some of the CD/books and am really pleased, it's been easy. Bit of a long post but thought best to explain my process...!

I piled up my books/CDs/DVDs that I no longer wanted and literally copied and pasted them across 3 x sites at the same time to get the best price.

In total, I sold 13 x books to WeBuyBooks and made £14.55 (cheque arrived 6 x days after posting items). I sold approx 15 x CDs/DVDs to MusicMagpie and have had email to advise they've all passed and my cheque for £11.46 is in the post (8 days for notification). And finally sold approx 40 x books & CDs to Zapper and they've all passed quality and cheque for £27.41 has been despatched (7 days for cheque to be posted).

Some books (e.g."The Devil that Danced on Water") was 30p on Zapper but WeBuyBooks offered me £1.36 so it was worth checking all sites. A lot of them did go for 30p which I know it disappointing for some people but as an avid ebayer, I checked against there and none of my items were in demand enough to justify spending hours and hours listing and posting 50 separate items on ebay.

Really pleased, as I've decluttered and made £53.42 (to buy more books with! :) )

I had about 40 x books that weren't accepted by anyone which I'm going to give to a charity shop but it's really worth checking. I had some very popular titles which nowhere wanted but then again, some random older books that went for a £1 or £2.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of trying the sites out. I must add - some of the CDs really werent in great condition and they've all passed. Some of them had "A" written on the inside cover (my initial for when me and an ex had to separate our collection!!) and most had lots of scratches on them....all minor but certainly plentiful).

Thanks for this info, I was just looking at a pile of my CDs and wondering about the best way to sell them ... will get myself a cuppa and sort thru the sites mentioned. Maybe Martin could do some kind of price checker for selling!!!!!
  • Cheers people, definately going to check these websites out. moved house recently and it became obvious we have way too many books and dvd's, so that is my job for today!
  • For 18 DVD's and 20 books I was offered £18.72. All pretty bog standard books/DVDs, so about 50p each is OK with me. That's all I would get on a car boot anyway, plus I'd have to pay the boot fee.
