Best way to reomve red wine stain

I spilt red wine on my rug and finding it difficult to the remove the stain. When it happened i used Vanish carpet cleaner to try and get rid of the stain but the stains is still there.
Does anyone know of anything else i could use? Thanks.

here are several suggestions which may help http://wine.about.com/od/redwines/a/redwinestains.htm
  • I've used Gonzo red wine stain remover with great effect, on a brand new (and I mean brand new - spilt some red wine on my parents new white carpet before they had even seen it!) You just dribble some on and and dab with a cloth, and the stain disappears - very effective. At the time it was available at John Lewis or Waitrose - can'y remember which.
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

Thanks nickj and Paul the Painter for your suggestions. I will get a bottle of Gonzo from Amazon.

  • when we spilled a glass of red wine on our new pale green carpet i was mortified. then a guest suggested treating the spillage with white wine. i was sceptical but poured some on. it was like a miracle, the red wine stain disappeared in front of our eyes. once blotted with a towel and dry the stain was completely gone.
worth noting this was done within minutes of the red wine spillage so not sure how it would react to a dried in stain?

I've just used white wine to remove red wine from a white tablecloth and it worked. The stain had been there for several days before I got round to treating it but the white wine quickly got it out.

We spilt a whole bottle of red wine on a brand new cream carpet a few years ago. We tipped a bottle of white wine all over it, mopped it up and you would never know !
