Has my mum been scammed?

i do feel like labouring that point, it's been one of those days.
what do you suggest for said labouring? your elongated ellipsis suggests you have a recommendation
Not a recommendation as such, merely that to express what I thought in words might be deemed by some to be offensive and as I was criticising you for that I didn't think to do it myself was necessary.
Interesting that you think because it has been "one of those days" it's ok to inflict your frustrations on others.0 -
Yeah, defo a scam sorry.
I do find these kind of funny when I get them though. I have a mac and 99% of the time run OS X, so when they phone saying press the start menu etc etc, I play along with it and tell them I can't find it and stuff.0 -
It is a scam! And I have to admit that I fell for it about three years ago! It's not just the old that can fall for it, I'm 23! I fell for it as I was on my computer at the time and it was playing up! I was stupid enough to give them access to my computer but as time went by I was getting more and more suspicious so I hung up on them. I felt so stupid! I just did a full virus scan and the computer was fine, I luckily didn't give out any personal details. Then just before Christmas they tried the same scam. I kept them on the phone for a good 20 minutes just arguing with them, it was quite a laugh! lol
I doubt you will get any money back, just put it down to experience.0 -

Best bet is maybe to phone paypal, explain the situation and see if there is anything they can do. Did the guy actually tell your mum he was from a certain company or not? Does the company name he said match with the one related to the payment?
What reviews have you found of the company online?
Section seventy-five might not apply, but chargeback could. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I thought there wouldn't be much I could do but I'll give paypal a try and see if they can do anything.
Thanks for the info and help
What was the status of your mother's PayPal account, before she paid for the service? Was it empty? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
