Hi all
I've bought a friend an LG blu ray player for christmas that only has a hdmi connection on the back, and he has a Panasonic CRT (not LED) TV that only has a scart connection. It's this LG blu ray player if that helps.
(I didn't know when I bought it for him.:o)
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to connect the two and are there any issues with it? I mean, presumably if they can be connected the two should work ok?
Cheers all.:)

The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

You can get scart to hdmi converters but they aren't cheap, a google search throws up lots of options:)
I've no experience of using them though so am unable to advise how well they work!0 -
You can't use HDMI with a scart socket because HDMI carries ONLY a digital signal and scart carries ONLY an analogue signal.
Your best bet is getting a new TV because even if you managed to get it working you might as well have a dvd player as you won't notice the difference in image quality through a CRT0 -
Thanks guys.
Whoops - I'd better tell him and take it back. The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -

That was a good value BR player deal, if you got it at Asda. Shame to take it back and spend more maybe on a plain DVD player.
Maybe it is time for your friend to upgrade to an LCD TV ? They may have to soon anyway, once the Digital Switchover completes in April, as the odds are his current CRT set does not have Freeview.0 -

Don't rush it out the door. It doesn't have scart but it should have the single Yellow composite Video out port. All you need is a Scart to red\white\yellow phono cable. That way it will work and when they get an HDMI able TV they already have Bluray.
I use my Sony Bluray in just this way so it will be fine.

Of course - should have thought of that
Double checking the spec on the LG site it does have those. So a simple scart to composite cable or adapter will be fine.
You may have an adapter knocking about already, especially of you have a games console as they often come with one. Otherwise Poundland sell them.0 -
I see this is sorted then, that's exactly how I connect my Blu Ray to my CRT, the phono to SCART from my console. You don't get the full res but I'm not worried for the moment, I really wanted my DVDs upscaled more than for new films.
If it's that Asda deal I'm not sure there's going to be a better price in any sale, if you're not going to plug it into a 5.1 system then it's great, if you don't want to spend £30 more on the cheapest Sony.0 -
Actually JamesK10, it can connect to a 5.1 system as it has a digital optical out connector
What it lacks is an Ethernet connector for web enabled functions such as BBC iPlayer. So for the money, of you don't want the web connection it is ideal.0
