Yeah, that works as well. I usually just use the remainder of the lemon that I've squeezed for cleaning, and stick that in the fridge. Lemons are good deodorisers too, plus they give the fridge a nice clean lemony smell!

I'm a combination shopper. I buy what I can from Lidl (for example their nappies, baby wipes, balsam tissues, quiche, lasagne, cheese, own brand diet coke (Freeway), cookies, jaffa cakes are all really good) - but I don't buy their vegetables.

Everything else I get from Asda and I cash in on their price promise and usually get a voucher for between £2 and £5 back every time I shop.

Same here! I have two moggies and a couple of years back changed them to all dry food (in an attempt to stop the smell being so bad from the litter tray ) but they'll starve themselves rather than touch anything that isn't whiskas or iams.

Meanwhile we eat value tomatoes, pasta, fruit juices, and shops own almost everyhting else. The only things I don't skimp on are corn flakes (gotta be kelloggs), toilet rolls, sausages and mince - can't stand the cheap stuff.

yeah OH tells me that its a cat etc etc it will eat it eventually etc etc but oh no I beg to differ! :rotfl:

the two legged members of the house will do most Aldi products including the Mayonaise and Ketchup which are very good and pizzas which are brilliant! I use a lot of Aldi toiletries and the hair serum and make up wipes are great........I find that Aldi and lidl are superior in quality than the Basic/value brands and tend to cost something similar, notably I never buy value bin bags but the Aldi ones are superb quality for the price.....

  • Hello everyone,

I am new on here but we have been testing out various places own brands for a while and we also shop around but base most of our monthly shopping on the following three..here is our opinion....

    Al*i are very good for:
frozen: fish, prawns, peas, icecream, mixed veg and peas
    Jams/ marmalade and preserves
    biscuits
    chocolate
    Cheese and onion snax crisps
    Fancy cheeses
    olives
tinned; sweetcorn, tuna, salmon, pilchards, mushroom soup
All veg offers but watch the potatos these are normally very dry.
    The wine !!
    washing powder

    As*a

    own brand bread flour
    other flour
own brand stuffing (sage and onion)
    own brand salad cream
    Fizzy drink offers

Fruit and veg is not usually nice though in our experience

    Morris*ns
    own brand yeast
    olives
    cheese offers
    long life milk

I agree with other posters; home bargains and the pound shop are brilliant for branded tioletries and well worth a look. I have tried quite a few own brand ones and find them to be a false economy because you tend to use more but again, just my experience with that too.

I will be exploring the delights of Lidl soon, to see what they have to offer!

    have fun!

also think about using things like bubblebath for handwash it saves us lots of cash in our house 1 wilko bubblebath is 80p gets us 3.5 bottles of handwash.

What a good idea - can't believe I didn't think of this, will definitely be doing it from now on - our children seem to this handwash is there for fun and use loads :)
