I cannot afford to use these heaters as i have a prepayment meter, when just ONE heater is on it used £20 in the first day
Hi Matt_in_Walsall, there is almost no chance of the convector heaters being the cuprit. Based on your electricity costing approx 0.10 per kwh and the heater being rated at 2kw, your heater would have to be running flat out for over 40 hours to use that much power. As you are on prepay, have you obtained a new top up card/ key from your supplier and informed them that you have moved in, changed the name on the account etc? If not, you are probably paying off someone elses debt at a fair chunk of what you are feeding the meter ie you top up £20, and £10 gets debited immediately to pay off arrears the previous tenant/owner has run up with them maybe on a credit meter in the past.
You also need to turn off ALL electric appliances and read the meter, and see if it continues to move/the numbers increase. If so, you either have a faulty meter or SOMETHING is still on and consuming power.
You need to contact the supplier as a matter of urgency if you have not already, if you do not inform them you have moved in, they still think the previous occupant lives there and will continue to charge them accordingly.CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
Try a cheap fan heater in rooms only used occasionally, as they heat a room in 5 mins flat. then turn off when leaving the room. Air all rooms once a day/leave doors open a bit should help with condensation.0
