Phillips mP3 player of doom

I had an mp3 player bought for me as a present. I was really dissapointed in it. I didn't use it much until recently when I started to listen to music whilst I walk to college. It even still has the plastic protector over the screen.

But the hard drive on it stopped working. I contacted phillips and they were going to come and collect it and fix it for me but when I got my bf to dig out the payment details for it, it turns out that it has just passed its one year warranty.

I'm so upset now that the present my bf bought me is broken and there is nothing I can do about it despite the fact Phillips admitted on the phone there was obviously something wrong with the harddrive on it. He spent £149 on a ticking piece of useless c**p and there is nothing we can do about it

I was shocked at their lack of customer service. I play paintball competitively and the service received by the suppliers of paintballing equipment is exemplarary. They really value thier customers and there are companies I will always go back to because I know they will look after me. However, in comparison I believe Phillips to be dreadful, thoughtless and an uncaring company. I won't touch a Phillips product now with an icky stick.

They were perfectly willing to fix it until they realised it was just outside of it's warranty. They have sold my bf a product that is faulty but refuse to do anything about it now they have his money in their pocket. I'm going make sure none of my friends or family make the same mistake by using Phillips :(

The old cheap mp3 I used to have was far superior (it worked at least) and it cost just a fraction of the price. I wish I had never gotten rid of it :(

If it's outside the warranty then they don't have to fix it for free ( I think). Did they not say you could pay for the reapir

You have the Sale of Goods Act on your side, and a £149 MP3 player should definitely last much longer than one year. But it's the retailer and not Philips who's responsible by law.

Contact the retailer and tell them you'd like a repair or a suitable replacement, in accordance with your statutory legal rights. If they refuse to budge, issue a claim in the County Court. You'd definitely win.

    What’s the model number?

It might be possible to replace the hard drive yourself if the case comes apart easy enough.

What capacity Gb hard drive is it?

My daughter has the HDD070 and the hard drive became faulty. You could hear it trying to spin for a few seconds and then it just came up with an exclamation mark saying connect to computer which did nothing. A few people on the internet said the disk reader arm gets stuck and the cure is throwing it against a wall. That seemed a bit drastic so I threw it onto the bed but made no difference. With nothing to lose, I opened it up and tapped the hard drive sharply while it was trying to start and it sprang back into life. It's been alright ever since.
