Forest Gate's never had the best reputation, tbh. Are you a Londoner? Male/female? Single? Nationality?
Check out reported crimes on the police.uk website. Have looked up Essex Street here for you:

Obviously people do live there, and will still buy there - depends where you'd fit in, I suppose.
I used to know Stratford quite well. Had a friend live in in Forest Gate but she didn't stay long. Would much rather buy in Walthamstow or Highams Park (presume Wanstead, Snaresbrook, Woodford and the other smarter places will be out of budget if you're considering FG).
Wouldn't surprise me if even Forest Gate prices were higher than they were a couple of years ago cos of the Olympics. Careful you're not buying at an inflated price or you might find you can't sell if you want/have to (along with thousands of others who bought looking to make a quick buck). Market might end up flooded with overpriced properties!

Go there. Spend an hour or two walking around with a pal late at night, especially on a Friday or Saturday. It doesn't have the best reputation but lots of places in London have the same and it doesn't necessarily mean people aren't safe at might. If you're not white, British working-class you might stand out like a sore thumb but that doesn't mean the natives are unfriendly. I live in one of the least desirable post-codes in this city but I feel safe here and have never actually seen any trouble personally. Well, not since the time I got mugged but I reckon that could have happened anywhere and it served me right for tottering home late at night half-cut. If I'd been stone, cold sober I'd have probably been more cautious and seen it coming from a mile off.0

PS my friend who left there went because she was mugged (she was sober/it was daylight! Being a female partial to the odd drink and late night (cough cough), I like to reduce (obv not eliminate) the risks so would probably avoid Forest Gate...)
I just think for similar money, there are nicer places to live. Okay, so Mayfair's out, but there are some other affordable bits of East London.
I still had to be somewhat streetwise even in Highams Park, but the crime rate is way under half of that in Forest Gate (according to police.uk) and I did feel relatively safe.
If you're a burly 6ft 4ins rugby type, don't think you won't get targeted. Used to date a bloke from near Forest Gate. He went to pick up a chinese takeaway one night, left 3 of us behind at his mate's house, and was begging someone to go with him cos he'd be targetted. We just thought he was being paranoid. He was 6' 3" and very streetwise, built like a..., but he did get picked on a lot by groups of blokes. Needless to say, he got thumped on the way back. We were all very young though and this was going back a couple of decades!
Good suggestion about going on a Fri/Sat night. Definitely worth a look round late eve.

Thank you all guys for your suggestion and time. Really Appreciate that ...0

If you zoom in on the crime map to the street where you are buying you will see that there is a problem with anti social behaviour and theft in the exact same spot. Check where it is you are buying as I would like to bet that it near/next to this problem. If you click on the left hand columns it gives what problems are around this area.0

I grew up around there, it has changed tremendously, and best avoided, like a lot of the East End, I think.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0
