nPower wont pay for solar energy

My dad has had solar panels fitted. He filled in his form with nPower back in August and they are fully aware that he is pushing power to the grid.

For some unknown reason they are not making any payments to him. He calls them and finds it very difficult to get through on the phone. When he does get through after being on hold for well over an hour they say something like: "we are sorry, please go and take a meter reading and we will pay you at the end of the month". He never gets a payment, and this repeats every month with him not getting anywhere.

He has tried speaking to ofgem but they say they do not deal with micro generation.

Does anyone know how to get this escalated? They now how him about £400...

Thanks

  • it does not work like that.
npower make payments 4 time a year meter reading to be sent in before 25th march , june, sep, dec
you should have recieved a letter back from them with your account number
when you said he sent the form back in august did he send off the mcs Certificate and all the other paper work that is required.

you can email them at microgeneration@npower.com
and they will respond within 48hrs

Who fitted the panels? Has he got them properly certified and registered, without which proof of nPower will not pay any FIT's?
I very much doubt that he will have generated £400 in FIT's since August-what is the system's rated capacity?

You could try the Energy Savings Trust, it's not really an area of theirs, but they would probably be able to advise on who / where to ring.

Regarding, £400 owed, sounds about right from August, that's 892kWh's.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Thanks for the replies, I will pass this info on to my dad. He probably hasn't read (or understood) the paperwork properly.

It was installed by an authorised fitting company, and I just read off the display on the system the amount of money it has generated.

Hopefully he will stop moaning now if it is a quarterly payment.

    Thanks

Also remember that he does not have to register for FITs with his electricity supplier. If nPower are messing about then he could use a different company for his FIT payments.

    Hi TheSaint,

    Happy New Year!

I'm sorry to hear about the confusion with the FIT payments.

You can send me the account details to forumresponse@npower.com and I can take a look at this for you?

    Best wishes,

    Adam :)

I have been waiting for my December and March payments. I have been told that my meter reading have not been received, despite me having an auto mated reply with a time and date stamp (seems like Npower can not search their own dat base). Been told that payment company has been changed so problems in payments (so why not send emails informing customers of this). Been told payments will be sent but can take up tp 60 days (payments do not turn up and added to next payment). Next payment does not turn up and process starts again you contact them excuses made, they take reading over phone told payment will be processed can take 60 days, payment does not happen.

I am not alone as neighbours with Npower also told the same thing. First excuse from them is always that your meter reading can not be found. They will take a meter reading but that gives them another 60 days to put you off. After 60 days the process repeats. They must be sitting on lots of money earning them interest.

Suggest raising a complaint, then after 8 weeks it can go to the ombudsman. They also get charged by the ombudsman for the referral.

There is another thread under Npower FIT payments were the npower rep posted the micro generation teams email address. I would still complain though as this is unacceptable and its only npower that are complained about over FIT payments from what I've seen on this board. On the other thread, the npower rep said it was backlogs, but given the scenarios posted, you should all be getting it o the ombudsman to make them wake up.
