wonga
I am currently setting up a payment plan with wonga, but I have heard that they can just take out the full amount from your bank account if you default.
Does anyone know if I close down my bank account but open a new one with the SAME bank, can they still access this new account because of the continious debit card payment authorisation they have? Just because it is still with co-op bank do they have the right to try to take it from any account?

they will try and take the full amount and if they cant take that, then they'll try and take half ... and then randomly try to take random amounts any time.... ideal thing is ring them Now or when they are open and say look i want a payment plan like i did. they froze the interst and i pay back £25 a week, well did, it's paid of now.
If they refuse just ring your bank and say your cards been stolen and they will cancel it, wonga will only have your void cards details then...0 -

well ive heared funy things about that, in the bank i was going to change to another bank just because of it . then in my bank ( barclays ) one said cancel the card then another said but they heard wonga still get the money even if you cancel the card.... id just cancel the card and take all the cash fromm your bank.. leave a tiny amount in, remember they arnt taking it as a direct debit so when its refused it wont " bounce " and give you a bank charge
^^ i didnt even end up canceling my card, just removed the money and rang them and told them ill not have cash in my account any more. paymewnt plan set right up...0 -

well i have closed the account completly that they have the details for and opened the same kind of account with the same bank, just worried that they have some kind of loophole that they can try and take money from that new account even though they dont have the details0 -
you need to open an account with an unrelated bank. this is as you are paying by card, the card payment was authorised before you closed the account, so still holds, and the bank will take payment from your new account. Plenty examles on this board of when that has happened.
So yes. There is a loophole and they will drive a train through it.Debt free 4th April 2007.

Co-op Bank - will assist in pay out whether you have new account or change of card
Don't report any card as stolen or 'account raids' by PDL's to police - you could end up in more bother and isn't the way to deal with this
You can open a new account online today - Halifax 'Easycash' or Barclays 'cashcard'
Your doing the right thing in approaching Wonga now - it will be ok, if your open and honest most are generally fair back x0 -
I took out a loan with them for around £200 as I was starting a new job & needed money until my first wage was paid,I was coming off the dole & needed the money for travel costs & basic living.I had the start date the lot.
Before I started the job tho,it fell thru & I had to go back onto the dole.I had arranged to pay them £25 a fortnight.Anyway,I got a text one Monday saying "Thanks for the repayment".
Contacted Santander, who assured me no money would be taken if the balance in my account was less than the amount requested.
The next week when I got my DSS money,I found I was overdrawn at the bank, contacted them & was told Wonga could lift the money if the was any money in the account!Santandar paid me £10 in compensation for being given wrong info from the woman who advised me wrongly.0 -

I closed down old account and opened brand new one, there was no transfers requested of dd's etc. I would open a brand new account with another bank but my maternity pay goes in tomorrow leaving me not enough time to open new accountJust really panicking that they will still have access even though its brand new account and new debit card
