French Newbies AArrgh!

About 3 weeks ago we had a Fench Newbie do a "buy it now" and said he wanted to pay by cheque.
We have stated on all listings that payments are to be in £'s but didn't want to take the cheque option off incase anyone english wanted to pay that way!
So we replied telling them that cheques must be in £'s and that was the last we heard from them. NPB process started and ended, neg left etc.
Within days we had another french newbie do the same but asked for a price in Euros so we told him the same as above.
That was the last we heard from him until NPB was started last Friday.
He then replied to it (Oh great!) stating again he wanted to pay in Euros.
So grudeginly we rang the bank, got the cost for processing a euro cheque, told him a price in Euros and told him it would take at least 5 weeks to clear.
We haven't heard from him since. He was asked on Sunday if he intended to pay for the item but have had no reply.
So my question is (she says getting very slowly to the point!:D) Do we close the process or wait a few days?
I'm fed up with being messed around by these people as these are not isolated incidents - to the point we wondered if someone in France was doing it deliberately!
Since all of this we have removed the cheque option on the listing but have stated in sellers payment instructions that we will accept UK cheque's - not that anybody reads them! All we are left with now on the listings is accepting paypal and "other" hoping it won't put anybody off!

Close it! Close it!
And put on your listings that only paypal is accepted from overseas. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Close the process. Include a note (in French) on your auctions to say that you don't accept payment in Euros.
Avertissement! Le paiement en euros n'est pas accepté.0 -

The trouble with that if they can't read the payment instructions that are already there they won't read that paypal is the only payment form for overseas customers and they'll still try and pay by cheque!0 -
Je prefere les clients qui paient. My TV is broken!

No... thank you - my French is rusty to the point of disintegrating.
And I was always lousy at tenses. It all went downhill once I no longer had a 'Tricolore' with verb tables to refer toMy TV is broken!

I made a mistake as well: I initially wrote payent but the 'y' needs to be a 'i'
OP definitely worth making it clear in your listing that you only accept payment by paypal if the buyer is outside of U.K.0 -

You'll still get a few who don't read it/can't read it.
As well as the above, just make sure, when you are sent the "I will be sending payment of..." e-mails that you double-check which payment method has been selected. That way, you have chance to send a quick e-mail to explain that you can not accept a cheque/money order/etc. from abroad, before they send their payment out.
A few still get through even then, as not everyone completes the checkout proceedure, so you do not always get those e-mails. (Have had a couple foreign cheques that way - and the buyers then often demand that the cheques are sent back to them. )0 -
