Campsite Recommendations?

Hi there

I am thinking of booking a campsite for 5 days or so this August.

I don't much like camping, but it's cheap! I need a site that has lots of amenities.

I am looking, in particular, for a swimming pool on site (the more kid friendly the better), plus night-time things to do for the children - e.g. kids' disco/entertainer etc, where my OH and I can also have a few drinks and relax.

Previously, we have been to a site in Wales (can't remember name) which was OK, bt not really enough things to do on site and we had to pay for the pool) and Searles in Norfolk, which was good, but too far for us to go back to.

So, I guess, a largeish site, EHU a must, plenty to do, clean toilets/showers (I don't mind paying a bit extra for these) and ideally near some sort of holiday resort/beach-type place.

I am in the North West, and would rather not have to drive more than a couple of hours. I have had a look on the various campsite forums, but am getting a bit lost because of the variety! I could do with some personal recommendations.

    hi

depending on the age of your kids - what about Broadway House Campsite near Cheddar...

    http://www.broadwayhousepark.co.uk/

It was great for my two

    - open air swimming pool... ( but great indoor council swimming pool with lazy river down the road in Wells)

very large bmx track - very professional and scary)

great skate park for scooters, skateboards

    big adventure playground,

    small toddler playground

    small crazy golf

    basketball courts on site

clubhouse for meals / entertainment - we did not use this as we sat outside the tent each night but it seemed ok..

lots of hot showers and even a bath..

    very clean all the time...

it was not cheap but we found loads to do on site when our car broke down for 3 days and then went to the indoor council pool when it rained

  • Thanks for these. Both look nice. Were they clean? How about windy? The first camping holiday we went on was on a clifftop and our tent is a pop up!

My children are 8 and 5, so the pool, playground and kids entertainment in the evenings are the most important stuff.

    hi

My kids were 4 and 5 when we went to Broadway house - my DS had his 4th birthday party on the site as we met up with lots of my family there. The skate park, and adventure playground were great for them - and the swimming pool has both a deeper swimming bit and a paddling pool bit. The bmx track was too old for them but would be good if they were older - but you need all the right safety equipment. The toddler playground has a sand pit as well.

Yes, the showers were very clean - there were 2 large blocks and one or the other seemed to be closed for cleaning a lot of time.

Broadway house is not on a cliff top but set behind Cheddar Gorge - we were at the far end of the site near the skate park and there is a woods going up the hill - so protected from the wind..

It would be worth looking at the map of the site and asking to book a particular area depending on what you want to be near...we had the skate park at the end of our row and the large adventure playground just behind our tent - so we could sit by the tent and see them on the adventure playground.

I think you would need to find out more about what the entertainment is in the clubhouse - as i said we never used it as we were in a large family group so spent the time outside each others tents / caravans etc whilst the kids played together...

    Hi

Have a look on this website www.ukcampsite.co.uk

You can search for campsites in the area you're interested in, link to their website and also see reviews from other campers that have stayed there.

You could also post on one of their forums to seek recommendations there.

Personally in recent years I've done most of my camping in France and I've been staying at Castels sites. http://www.camping-castels.co.uk/?id=253&id_camping=21&url_html=camping-la-bien-assise-id253-id_camping21&langue=en#activites1
The ones I've stayed at have been excellent and they have sites all over France. I've found the french sites to be generally cheaper that English sites. Also if you are looking for a ferry crossing then look at Norfolkline we got a return crossing in August for a large car + roofbox for under £100. I realise that this is alot further than you're currently considering but I thought it might be interesting for you to consider.

Glan y Mor can be very windy esp if you choose to camp on the top field (a little rugged and wild) It is right on the seafront. Good location . I have been to Broadway House also and its a great site in a great location too. Was way back in 1999 and they had a small zoo/farm running along the side i take it thats gone ? When we stayed there we went to a horse show in Priddy held by local travellers , Good times
