Midland Rail / Nationwide Bank - payment 'failed' yet funds taken.

Been trying to book train tickets for a day out tomorrow. Payment came up as failed so tried again - same happened. Logged onto bank, and the money has already been deducted / 'held' from the account.
The train company aren't interested - 'not their problem', and bank's phonelines are closed until Tuesday - ridiculous.

How on earth can it not be the rail companies fault? The bank can't know you owe the rail company the money if their system has not asked for it. unless the banks crystal ball is working overtime.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

they're basically saying that the bank 'declined' the transaction (as far as their (rail companies) system is concerned) - yet the funds have been deducted from the available balance - they reckon the funds are 'on hold' and will be released within a few days - but not being able to speak to anyone at the bank is just a pain!0

well, full credit due to the rail company - they've sorted us out with new tickets leaving us to just contact the bank re payments already 'taken' - good turnaround in service from them - wish same could be said for the bank - days without being able to contact anyone is just daft.0

The pre authorisation will fall off in a few days.
The bank will not act on it unless they have confirmation from the retailer the transaction is not genuine.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
thanks - god knows why they did a 'pre authorisation' but didn't actually authorise the payment - twice!0

Amazing how this mysterious company 'Midland Rail' went from zero's to hero's so late at night."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

My apologies if I'm mis-reading your post & you are indeed being sincere, but incase you weren't, here is the twitter conversation between us - of course doesn't show the additional messages sent privately, but you get the gist.

I got the company wrong - it's 'London Midland' - a huge rail company handling 1300 services a day
