And to lose Sam who was only 10 to a brain tumor is really affecting me..
Molly is 11 now, and she is still a little depressed, has some sores on her legs from lazing around, I am scared to lose her..
she has been interacting with alphy our 9 mnth old puppy, remember I was worried about them together? But he is just to fast for her now, it makes me giggle when she has a go, he is off, she gets mad but wants to play.. BUT only recently wants to play.
But she is getting old, I am so scared she is my baby, it makes me cry knowing her day will come when she becomes ill etc. oh don't wanna think about it..
After what 7 mnths of Sam going, she has only not started to come out of her shell a little, taking things slowely though, and her poor nails are so long, I feel for her, not my fault she just would not go out for a walk, she sat down as I dragged her so took her bk in, BUT we went for a walk today and she was fine, so more of this will help with her nails.. but I think I need to take her vet to get them cut.. Also her lump on her tummy is growing again, she did have it removed and tested neg for it, but to keep an eye on it, but its back grrrr..
Thanks just wanted to share....

What breed is Molly? 11 isn't so old for some.
It is cruel that dogs have such short lives compared to ours. Having them in our lives is worth all the sadness at the end though.
Can you not clip her nails if they get too long when she won't walk? One of my dogs has super fast growing nails so even though he walks on tarmac several times a day they still need trimming once a week!0 -
My 13 year old staffie has all but lost the use of his back legs, dragging them about behind him most of the time. He still plays with the other two staffies in the family like he's a pup, one of them is a little girl who sits on my baby's face (and he doesn't complain either!).
I know i've probably just had my last xmas with him, but don't waste your time worrying about when then inevitable happens - its wasted quality time while she's still hereLBM: 22.12.2010 :j Self-managed DMP start 29.1.2011DMP Mutual Support Thread No: 4130 -
Staffie... and just the best, one in a million, loves to dress up in tutu's... I love her so much, it's heartbreaking...
She is having probs with her back right leg at the moment, and is like taking longer to jump on the bed....
cheers me up though knowing she can't tell aplhy off anymore, because he runs away from her, he is just to fast for her.. But heartbreaking at the same time, because her and Sam used to entertain us by chasing each other round the garden..
Roll on summer..0 -
I lost my 15year old boxer dog yesterday, he was the best dog anyone could ask for and we will all miss him terribly! But the reason I am posting is that when he was about 11/12 he got terribly mopey and depressed, wouldnt lift his head to look at you or anything. (We lost our older dog not long before and he missed her).
But then we got a new boxer puppy and although she obviously annoyed him a bit to begin with, he grew to love her. He improved enormously and seemed to have a new lease of life. For the first few months he was able to play and fight with her and at least attempted to keep up with her in the park. Then age caught up with him, he lost his teeth and his back legs started to go but he stayed really chipper. Right up until the end he loved his walks in the park, even though he could only run a few paces
It is awful to lose your dog but please try not to worry about it and just enjoy your time together. Just because she can't keep up with the younger one doesnt mean she isnt enjoying the company. Introducing a puppy into our family added years onto our dogs life so I hope you have the same experience0 -
I know its little or no consolation but I had my 13yr old dalmation pts about 6 mths ago, I was devastated and was kept going by a new puppy my son bought (without us knowing!) he was a doberman/rottie cross - turned out to be the softest most loving boy I'd ever known (I never heard him even growl) as well as really handsome and bright. New years eve he got out via a gate left open by my sons friends and was following the lads accross a busy main road, was killed by a speeding ambulance (not on an emergency btw) heartbreakingly he didn't die straight away but got up and ran around first before curling into a sleeping position and dying, he must have been terrified as he was scared of cars even when walking on his lead, one of my sons friends did his best to hold him. He was only just 1 and my heartache is far worse than losing my other dog because she had a long happy life and was pts painlessly. I would give anything to have him back and the constant reminders of him in the house just break me up, he followed me everywhere even in the shower he would lick my legs as I got out.
In the space of a few hours he just isn't here anymore.
The guilt is massive even down to not walking him as much as I could have (He'd sit looking up at me waiting for his lead to be put on wagging his little stump tail) - he loved running around the field like a little powerful racehorse.
I suppose what I am saying is if you've had years with your pet and looked after him/her then that is a great achievement - memories will be good to look back on think of yourselves as really lucky.0 -
;-( hopefully molly will keep going a good few more years. My staffie has also just turned 11 - she had a bit of bad health recently and has a touch of arthritis in her spine which shes had for a few years but other than that luckly i can still take her good hr and half walks and still playing lots etc.
Staffies i think can live quite a while so hopefully your pup will keep molly young :-) enjoy her while you can. Mine is also my baby and couldnt imagine what it would be without her :-( shes a little star.0 -

Jovie so, so sorry.
Paulsad how absolutely awful ... I am so, so sorry. I lost my old boy in November and it's been the hardest thing to cope with but I do have the comfort of knowing he had a long life and (once he came to me) a very happy one. It must be so hard to lose such a babe.....
