Train Travel Question

We have an anyday return ticket(incl.friends and family railcard) from East Runcorn to Bognor Regis and will be travelling back on Tuesday 3rd Jan.
There's a train departing at 7.59am, would we be able to travel on this train with this kind of ticket or is it after 9am?
Also,we have to change at Warrington, would we be able to start our journey from there?
Heard stories before of people being fined for getting off trains too soon, does this still apply?
Many thanks in advance.

Sorry, I don't recognise the term anyday return ticket.

But looking at another of your threads you seemed to be telling us that you had to travel on specific trains.

What tickets have you actually got?

Do you mean "Anytime"? If so that is a very expensive ticket.

The full terms of an Anytime ticket can be found here:

Anytime tickets are valid at any time.

Off Peak tickets do have time restrictions, but in this case it would apply to the time of arrival of the train into London Euston only. No time restrictions are applicable on the Runcorn East - Warrington, or the London - Bognor Regis portions of the journey. The time restriction on the return portion of an Off Peak Return for this journey is as follows: "ARRIVE: London Euston Before 0720 or at or after 1129"

(Different time restrictions are applicable if travelling into other London terminals e.g. Marylebone )

Starting/finishing short is considered a break of journey.

Break of journey is always permitted on Anytime tickets.

Only a court can issue a fine.

Breaking your journey when not permitted can result in an excess fare being charged, or the ticket being refused for travel (if starting short), it is highly unlikely that someone starting or finishing short would be prosecuted and fined and I have not heard of this happen.

Not many people here can give accurate answers to the complex questions asked, you'd be better off asking such questions at a dedicated Fares, tickets & routeing forum.

However the exact ticket type held and the time of the train you wish to catch from Warrington would need to be known before a definitive answer can be given.

There is also the added complication that Virgin allow Railcard holders to travel on Off Peak tickets to travel at any time, though there is a little-known clause that states "all travel must be with Virgin" - though if you start short at Warrington and finish short at London, it is debatable whether all travel is with Virgin or not (I would argue that it is) however guards are unlikely to be aware of this caveat, let alone enforce it.

Many thanks for all that information.
Yes I did mean ' anytime'- (think the couple of glasses of Baileys I had last night must have affected my brain!).
    Thanks again:)

There's no need to get an Anytime ticket for travel on Virgin Trains if you hold a Railcard, as Virgin accept Off Peak tickets on ANY train in conjunction with a Railcard. There are certain exceptions, and to be "by the book" you may need to split your journey into 3 tickets, as officially they only allow this concession on tickets where "all travel is with Virgin" though I have never heard of this be enforced.
