Potentially stupid q about washer/dryers

Hiya,

This might seem like a silly question, but i really haven't a clue, so please go easy on me! We move into our new flat on Friday, and need to have a washer/dryer delivered to us. I know that there are 2 types of tumble dryers, ones which need a vent to the outside, and condensers that don't. However, i've never seen any information on any of the washer/dryers i've looked at telling me whether they need a vent or not, does this mean that they all do/don't? Specifically I'm looking to buy a Hotpoint WD865A from whitebox.

:o:o TIA for any help you can give me :o:o

Good luck for your move!! As far as I know washer/dryers don't need/have a vent hose pipe thingy! We have a washer/dryer and its vent free.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks CarolnMalky, not one of the ones i've looked at tell you that information, so hopefully it's the case for all washer/dryers!

We went for a condensor dryer this time around as it needs no vent. There's a container you empty out each time, but it's no hassle - at least not on the Bosch we have ... had it a couple of years now.

And not wanting to put a fly in your ointment, but we went right off Hotpoint some while back, which is why we went for Bosch. Years (and years!) ago we had their stuff and it was very good, which is why we went for their fridge and freezer. But their design is just naff: drawers not strong enough for their massive size, bad shelf design, etc. And someone else I know got a washing machine only a few years back, and it's now had to have it's main bearings replaced twice! I think they've lost the plot. Companies like to talk about consumer loyalty, but it's not loyalty it's trust ... and they don't get too many chances to abuse it. I'm ranting ... sorry! :o

PS: If you go for non-condensor and don't vent it, you end up with moisture-laden air being pumpled into the room.

It is a condenser model, so that you will not need any external vent. The machine normally connects to the waste pipe under your sink.

Remember that John Lewis give a 2 year guarantee on washer driers.

  • Thanks everyone for all your replies:

reheat: i have heard bad things about hotpoint, but i think the reviews for this machine aren't too bad. It's the only one that will fit in the space we have and goes with the rest of the kitchen so we will stick with it until we move to a house, then i'm definitely getting separate washing machine and dryer!

will-in-estoril: Thanks for the precise information, do you have one yourself? If so, would you recommend it?

djl: do you mind me asking what make and model you have?

    Thanks so much everyone!
