Leaving University and student finance

I was hoping someone might be able to help me figure out what I might have to pay back student finance if I leave mid way through the course. I am fully aware of how the maintenance loans and tuition fee loans are paid but am a little confused about grants. I know I wouldn't be entitled to any of January's instalement if I leave now but would I have to pay back the grant I received for the first term?

I believe grants are free and that you do not need to re-pay them.0

Above poster is talking complete !!!!!!!!.
Your grant entitlement will be reassessed pro-rata for the academic year. You're only entitled up until the last day of attendance, so the calculation will be:
Total grant entitlement x (number of days since 1st September 2011 to last day of attendance divided by 366) = entitlement.
Then take the total amounts of grant you have received so far, deduct from that your entitlement as calculated above and anything over will be an overpayment that needs to be repaid straight away, as per the T&C's of the contract you signed.0 -
I said that I believe. I did not state that it was fact, simply passing on what I have been told by my university.0

Indeed, and I just said your beliefs were nonsense.0

I think there may be some confusion on eloiseh behalf.
Grants are 'free' but only if you meet the criteria so in the OP's case they're entitled to a grant pro-rata'd to the number of days attendance (see Taiko's calculations) and anything recieved over that has to be repaid as the OP does not have an entitlement.0 -
I am sorry but there is no need to be rude about it.
I see MrsManda you are right there was a little confusion, if only it were explained properly at the University I attend, thanks for clearing it up. Am sure the OP will be grateful too! x0
