Buying from USA?

If it is over the limit it is likely to be charged duty (which varies with products) - you can phone the VAT people to get a commodity code and percentage rate on 01702 366077. You will also be charged VAT on the value of the item plus the carriage cost at 17.5 per cent. The carrier will also charge a clearance fee of about 8 to 15 pounds. Even if it is over the limit it may get through without being charged but you need to do the calculations to see if it is worthwhile. If there is no charge consider it a bonus. If sent by the US post office you have the best chance of it slipping through. With carriers like Fedex or UPS it is very unlikely to avoid import charges.0

Just thought I'd update you. I bid for the item and won for just $9.99, postage was $17 and the item arrived yesterday. Everything as stated, no extra tax charge either. So pretty pleased although I do now need to buy an AC adaptor plug as the cable is for USA/Canada. Local Sony sell them so I'm off there this morning.
Thanks for your input everyone - it worked out well for me especially as they are £80 here! :j0 -
That's good then, Lara. I always buy stuff from the USA as tends to work out alot cheaper than it does here!0
