Just my experience here, of Nuffield Gyms - I just cancelled my membership after about 4 years and when I enquired they checked and said that I was on a rolling monthly contract and as such only needed to give a month's notice. I wasn't aware of this until I got in touch. I still had to go in person to sign the cancellation.

I guess this doesn't help if they won't answer your call!

Some gyms require 3 months notice, so one month is quite good.

I'd also make sure you get a copy of the cancellation form with their signature on it, incase it gets "lost".
  • I would also give it a try! worth asking isn't it?

if you manage to get it cancelled, try looking at PureGym if you have one near you! t hey are a gym that has no contract and has a direct debit system and you can cancel at any time!! and they do over 30 classes a week!!! rotate them regularly i think so everyone can get a chance too go..worth checking out something like that so your not tied into a contract again :)

i've got lucky with my gym - it's one of only a few 'klick fitness' gyms in the country. it's run by fitness first, but you don't have to sign up for a contract, it's dirt cheap and is well maintained.

i pay £12 a month and can cancel at any time. the only downside being no relaxation facilities, so no pool, sauna or steamroom, but to be honest, i don't go to the gym to relax, i go to lift and push weights. at £12 a month and no contract, you cannae complain.

they also have 40+ classes a week if you're that way inclined

there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

Well miracles do happen. I've managed to convince the manager that the situation is unacceptable and he has agreed to let me cancel. I have already paid for January but I can leave. the end of Jan. What a relief.

Do you have it in writing? If you don't, then write your own letter recording the agreement struck and send it in to the gym and keep your own copy, plus proof of posting.

These things have the potential to be forgotten and then turn up in a year or so as a letter from a debt collector.
