Group holiday cancellation

Does anyone have any experience of a group wedding holiday booking being cancelled due to wedding being called off. We were supposed to be part of a wedding party but have now been told the wedding is cancelled. The travel provider has indicated that we have lost our deposits and are unable to go on the holiday unless all of the party travels. Seems we lose out everyway. Any suggestions please.

only people you can claim off is possibly your travel insurance
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Have you thought of just all of you go anyway and enjoy a short holiday

Unless two of the party are the no-longer-to-be bride and groom. Depending on the reason for cancellation they may not be inclined to take part. Unless the OP returns we may never know. Could be a good plot-line for a sitcom, though.

It does seem a pity that the rest of your group is not able to just take it as a holiday. I have never been invited to a wedding holiday but would be reluctant to risk a large deposit if the insurance did not cover it. It is entirely out of your control and you have done nothing wrong.
  • Normally you are covered by insurance for medical conditions etc but not for someone deciding to change their mind. Best to read your insurance policy as there is so much variation. In the past i know i was able to transfer the deposit to another holiday (i hadn't booked as part of a group though so that is probably completely different). You might be best to ask if you can still have a holiday rather than loose a lot of money. worth asking. Hope this helps a little. Kr, Moggy
  • oh forgot to mention the fact that you were travelling as a group would have meant you were possibly being given a special group price for the trip which means if you travel as just you and your partner it will be much more expensive so check what the price for the 2 of you will be also before you commit. hth, moggy

It is also likely that the booking for the group was made in the name of one person. It might be worth enquiring whether or not they have been able to transfer the deposit to another holiday and if they have, ask them for your share of the deposit back.

I know this sounds as if you don't trust them, but as you are losing out because they have changed their mind I would ask the question.

I suspect what they mean is all the party PAYS.
Could you split the cost of the 2 between the rest of you? If it's 2 out of 20 then might not be enormous.
Alternatively could you get 2 others to go.

Otherwise - yes you have lsot the deposit. It was an arrangement that was dependent on everyone.
Be glad that you didn't lose more and also be glad for your friends that they didn't make a terrible decision about marrying the wrong person.

Personally I would advise others to do individual bookings.
