postage prices grrrr.!

just been to the p.o. to send a parcel special d. I weighed it at 980g. it must have gained weight during the drive as the p.o. woman weighed it at 1008g, not happy as the difference in price is huge! should have been £5. odd, but cost £7.40 (
why the hell don't they have smaller incremental rises????
1kg to 2kg is a huge gap, surely they could go in 250g sections.
talk about a rip off!!!!!!

I've been known to go home and repackage under similar circumstances!

It really stinks to have a slight difference in weight that takes you over the threshold. Depending on the size of the post office, I might have asked for a 'second opinion' from one of the other sets of scales.

I had never seen the woman before, it's normally the postmaster (who is usually generous), she was a real jobsworth, she told me off for writing the label too slowly! ( because I was coughing my guts up at the same time - couldn't she see I was ill??). re-packing wasn't an option, it was a fragile collectors item that needed layers of bubble wrap and corrugated cardboard because it's an odd shape, plus with the amount of brown tape, even the buyer will have a hard time opening it.
I only charged £7.50 for p & p , and I accepted an offer of £35 on a bin of £40, so what with about £5 of listing, fvf and pp fees, I will be lucky if I've made a fiver for what is a stunning item.

8g is about the weight of a couple of pieces of A4 copier paper... you probably could have cut off a few cm of carboard and got the weight down.

    Hey ho.

I weigh my items at work on brand new electronic franking machine scales to get an indication of the cost then when I go to the local post office I have noticed they always weigh about 15g more on their very old looking set of scales (only have one set). Luckily for me its never put it into another bracket but perhaps they have it set in their favour........

In those circumstances it probably would have made sense to book one of the £5 couriers (at least you wouldn't have had to go out :))

I could only see next day courier for £8.99, 2-3 day courier was £5.25 but the feedback for the company (selective, I think) was not too good.
I would have sent it normal parcel post but I had already told my buyer that it was going special.

If you're going to do alot of ebaying, get one of these:

Very very accurate to the gram - never different from what I see a the post office. My first one broke after several years of use, I bought the exact replacement on eBay for 7 quid (inc delivery) :-)

    aww poor thing!!! :kisses3:

Next time you go tell the postmaster! say the scales may need 'tuning!' at my po they are electronic and once started on 0005 I know its not a lot but the silly moo was arguing with me it was supposed to be like that!!! the 5 other scales next to her were all on 0000!!

Why get sooooo moody, they are there to provide a service!!! if it wasn't for us ebayers they would be out of a job!
