websites for wishlists of second-hand bits

Options
I was recently browsing some American websites and found websites where charities and non-profit community groups can post wishlists of things they are looking for. Now our theatre group are always looking for odds and ends, usually second hand things for making into costumes, and that kind of thing.
We apparantly are not allowed to use our local Freecycle group even in a limited manner, as we are a "group" rather than an individual, and I could not find any wishlist websites similar to those American ones, relevant to the UK, so while I posted our wishlist on our website, I was wondering if you have suggestions as to other places to list it.

We also dropped the list around our local charity shops, as quite a few of the bits we are looking for are things that they probably wouldnt put on the shelf in general as they arent fashionable! (we do historical theme shows and look for material and clothes we can re-make into costumes, for example, and we often dont mind if they are damaged or marked as long as we can clean or mend them, so they do get money for things they would otherwise throw away) But the problem is while some of the regular ladies do very helpfully look out for bits for us, the lists get lost within a few days because they have different volunteers all the time.

So, we are back to looking at any possible online listings for our wishlist? Suggestions most welcome.

You would think something would be out there already wouldn't you
How about Yahoo Groups where you can start your own group?
Or a plain old fashioned press release to a local paper - as a one off, but it may stick in folks' minds
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow
  • Try Goodwill Gallery and their 'Free Goods for charities'
    Alternatives to Freecycle here
Start a wishlist thread similar to this one on MSE
Amazon wish list which I believe groups and charities can use

Hope the above are a starter for ten to get you on your way

Freecycle varies from group to group. I was thrown out of one group for questioning the moderator on a minor issue. Two others I have had no problem with. There's also Freeagle which seems a bit more relaxed. Look here http://ilovefreegle.org/groups/south-west
    Also Scrap Store see http://www.scrapstoresuk.org/

oh smashing, these look the best bet so far to be honest. Yep, I am disgusted by our local Freecycle group. There isnt a freegle group one for my area per-se, but there are two for very close-by areas.

  • I know it might not be relevant, but if you need narrow ribbons for any of your costumes (or are likely to need any in the future), you could ask members if they want to cut out those annoying bits in their clothes. I'm currently collecting them for my Brownies and Rainbows units, as they are great for craft activities, but when I saw your post, I thought it might be something to consider, as some historical costumes have ribbons on them.
