To answer your question, the order was done instore.
I will suggest they try to get them to allow the £150 against another, lesse purchase. If they won't allow this I will raise the issue of provable loss.
Persoanlly speaking, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of accepting a credit note. I would go for the proving losses exercise. It is highly unlikely they will be able to prove any losses at all. If they had been reasonable in the first place, I would agree with your plan, but as they wanted to play "hard ball," so to speak, I say "sod 'em."
