Arrrgh! I ran a bath last night and the water was green
it was disgusting! This has happened once before in the 6 months we have been in the house.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be an how to sort it?
PS. water from the electric shower was fine!

Has it been a while since you last had a bath or a large bath? The most likely explanation, especially since it has happened twice, is that you are disturbing some crud in the bottom of either the header tank or the hot water cylinder. Things to check include looking in the header tank and checking what is in it (and hoping it's not a squirrel or pigeon - unlikely). Also, what is heating the water? Is it off the central heating or is it by an immersion heater? The immersion heater may be past it, for instance.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Hi
Do you have a cold water tank on a flat roof? Or is it in a roofspace?

Thanks Bob,
The water is heated by the central heating - we usually use the shower but I tend to have a bath about once a week. Will have to get hubby to check the tanks.0 -

Other consideration is that the tank is a galvanised steel one, but they go rusty not turn green. Green (or blue) you'd usually associate with copper.A house isn't a home without a cat.

Hi
Bob, don't get too many down here but then I wouldn't know as you can't see them from the ground.:D
Quite a few in London and I have dragged out a dead pigeon from one.
You are right they would freeze ,that's why they are boxed in and insulated.
Maybe it's because it's warmer down South.(And not just the air temp)
To the, OP does the water smell? If yes then something is not right with your water tank.Have a look.
If not then, as said, it's likely something to do with copper. If you are in a soft water area then it will dissolve copper.

Our water turned greenish. Turned out to be a wooden cover on the tank that had got splashed over the years and was flaking into the water!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Silvercar's possibility sounds plausible too, timber lid falling to bits in the tank.A house isn't a home without a cat.
