Hello, I purchased a Samsung NPN102JA0 1DX netbook the other day and I tried using it this afternoon and whatever I do it will not connect to the internet. Also it is very slow at booting up and it sometimes doesn't boot up at all. Can anyone advise me on what might be wrong or could it just be a faulty product or perhaps there is a known issue with this product.
Thanks for your help.

That doesn't ~seem~ to be a model that's sold in the UK (or at least it doesn't seem to show on the Samsung UK website), so it's hard to know what the spec is.
But most of the base-level Samsungs are Intel Atom based, so you wouldn't expect it to be very fast.
If it sometimes doesn't boot at all I'd send it back as faulty.0 -
Very slow spec machine, check you're internet pass key is typed in for your connection correctly (bottom left of screen , looks like stairs)
Suggest you install Ubuntu Linux it will be a little faster, also trying upgrading memory to 2gbMy Mind wanders, if found please return.0 -
Seems like netbooks/atom processors get a lot of bad press here.
Netbooks CAN run very fast and perfect for what they are made for. In fact whenever I bought a netbook (I am on my 4th by the way), it always starts up in abount 40 seconds, which is very fast.
If you are having those problems from a new product then I'd contact the place you got it from, or call the helpline.0 -
I have an old Acer Aspire one and a Samsung, but it's horses for courses the samsung listed here is a single core 1.3ghz with 1gb ram now there is no way that's going to run Windows 7 at speed. Which is why I'd say stick Linux on it - Puppy would be very good or even Mint which I have on the Acer as Linpus was useless. I have windows 7 on the samsung as it's a dual core 1.6 with 2gb ram so can cope.My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

Netbooks come with a watered down windows 7 "starter". It is very zippy, have you actually got a netbook or just assuming?0 -
Thanks - useful input for me. I'm just about to get a netbook which comes with Win7 Starter installed, and was assuming I'd have to load a light version of Linux instead, but perhaps I should try it with Win7 first (or dual-boot).
I would expect Puppy would be ultra-fast on that sort of hardware, given the way it performs on ten year old desktop PCs!0 -
UPDATE:
The netbook was returned to the store and they couldn't even get it to work so we exchanged it for a more expensive one.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

You have a choice of Linux versions, Puppy is good for very low spec Acer Netbooks as they are a pain to increase the memory on, although Mint 10 seems fine, but dont expect much in the way of uninterrupted video playback. For a samsung, Ubuntu runs well and of course there is Netbook Remix of Ubuntu too.My Mind wanders, if found please return.0 -

I'm hoping to use Mint, though whether the fallback to Gnome Classic will work properly is anyone's guess - it did on one of my desktop PCs and didn't on the other! Very annoying when you can see that there's a menu there, but can't read what it says...
Strictly speaking, the Ubuntu Netbook Remix no longer exists - it was absorbed into the main Ubuntu release from 11.04 onward. But as I hate Unity, that's academic anyway...0
