Is Tariff attached to house or person ??

I am about to start a new tariff as my old one is expiring.

The best deals are 12 months contracts, if I leave the property after 6months how does this work ??

Do I have to take the tariff to my new property or does the new owner just inherit the tariff ??

Thanks in advance.

  • The tariff is attached to you at the property.

The supplier may let you move the tariff to another house but not necessarily - especially if the new house is in a different DNO area. Therefore you should check carefully for any early termination penalties if you think you might move during the contract.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

So if I move out during the 12 months would I be subject to a penalty if one existed ??

Would the person moving into the house not just inherit the tariff or do they automatically start from scratch with their own ??

You need to check the terms and conditions. Possibly is the answer.

The new tenant would start from scratch on the standard pay on receipt of bill tariff with no discounts. When they make contact with the supplier they can then choose a tariff.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

No. If you leave the property the contract ends without penalty, you pay what you owe based on the closing reading.
At the new property you are in a deemed contract (on Standard tariff) with the existing supplier, you have to register with them on day one before you can switch.
You cannot transfer an account over from one property to another.
