New House Move - British Gas
Hi All,
I have recently moved house and have received a letter from British Gas to "the occupier".
It reads:
"We are delighted to be the gas and electricity supplier for your property. However, at the moment we do not have all the necessary information to set up your account."
I cannot contact the home movers department until Tuesday due to the new year to set up an account, and have some questions:

I cannot contact the home movers department until Tuesday due to the new year to set up an account, and have some questions:
- Do I have to set up an account with British Gas as they're the supplier or can I go directly to the cheapest supplier?
- If I take the meter reading on Tuesday (3rd Jan) and then call BT (or whoever) but moved in prior to this, how will that be costed?

Take a meter reading and call BG to set up an account. They have to bill you till the supplier of your choice takes over- approx 6 weeks. If you wish to change supplier do not sign up to any fixed price as this would have a termination fee.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

If they have sent an Occupier letter they must know the prev person moved out. This person should have given a meter read so they can bill you from that.Take a read now and then when you call so that if there is any dispute about the readings you can show your average use.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

And take a photo of the meter reading too :cool:0 -
Can anyone help me calculate the rate British Gas will put me on when I sign up for the 6 week period?
I want to be able to calculate how much my bill will be.
Also, I have the readings from the day we moved in (09.12) and the readings from today (31.12). Can anyone comment on our usage i.e. is is low / average / high.
Gas:
09.12 - 2922.158
31.12 - 3069.72
Electricity:
09.12 - 67978.5
31.12 - 68229.0
Thanks

1677kwh gas approx and elec 251kwh daily ave's are gas - 76kwh or poss ann usage of 16600-22000kwh and elec is per day 11.4kwh est ann usage is 3900-4300kwh. Gas wise you are average to above average and elec same, but difficult to get a true feel for gas more than the elec, as only 22days of winter reads. As to how much spend will be depends on where you live in the Uk as to what rates, but the tariff will be their standard rate.0

You should have taken a reading and called them on the day you moved in, as you are in a deemed account from day one.No free lunch, and no free laptop

More info required, is the gas meter metric or imperial?
If the meter is not white then it is high usage assuming a non stately home £201 if it is metric then it is £76 roughly and possibly around 'correct' my gas for december was £125 for the month,
PS figures are based on BG standard rate and Midlands area. hth0
