In most cases the retailer does not get the fees back for a refund even if the same card is used. The aquirers stopped this over 10 years or so ago. There will be the odd exception but certainly not the rule.

The main reason is to stop fraud & chargebacks. I steal a credit card pay for goods and then later take them back for a refund on to a different card, this way the fraudsters have the cash at someone's expense but fairly hard to trace.

Mad!, what about when they check or say no when you need to return the very expensive item. You may well find you get banned from those stores as well as they will also wonder what you are doing. Remember how many people rightly or wrongly have been banned from Tesco on this forum.

Why don't you just get a card that offers 0% on cash advance or just use it to pay all of your monthly bills and save the cash????
