HD Traffic on Navigation System

I am looking for an accurate HD Traffic navigation system.

Currently I use a tomom 1005 live and it hasn't always been accurate with its traffic or routes.

I am on the road every day and do a minimum of 70miles, so its imperative I have a navigation system with accurate live Traffic.

Can any one recommend me one please?

Thanks
London, UK

  • I have the tomtom 1005 live too and I'd go as far as saying the hd traffic is utter useless !!!!! at least on the roads I use never picks up any road closures at all and always vastly wrong on delay times. Google navigation on android phones have real time traffic but I'm not sure how well it works, a colleagues says its good but i'm going to try it alongside my tomtom for a while once i'm back at work on a samsung galaxy, I'll update once I know.

How often are you two updating the alerts? TBH if the TT traffic is not doing it for you , nothing will, as the service they offer is about as good as it gets :o
  • HD traffic updates every 2 or 3 minutes, the tomtom has a built in sim card on a data plan and talks to tomtoms database pretty much constantly, updating your average speeds and stopping patterns to inform others and vice versa. It should know when a delay is present and ask you if you want to route around the delay. It does this sometimes but often the new route is worse than the small delay on the route you were on. It also never, ever picks upon road closures and diversions due to roadworks despite it being advertised as doing so. Even when the roadworks are ongoing 18 month road closures with all the correct authorities notified and being reported on traffic alerts on the radio the tomtom still tries to take you down the closed road and going into the alternative route section is laborious as it only lets you omit one section of the journey at a time and has to recalculate every time.

TBH I have not come across any permanent road closures, I have the TT1 v2 with traffic subscription, what I do like abot this compared to other sytems is that even within towns and cities the roads are reported (well certainley so in the Midlands and Staffs), certain routes are never going to allow for a speedy rat run/ alternative and hence why perhaps the device did not offer an alternative route, the other services I found good was the ITIS for symbian, just wish I could find an Android version and the traffic on the Sygic satnav app, it should allow for avoid all delays en route, although you say a delay, I think the TT definition of a congested route was average speed below 50% posted limit for more than 3 mins :o
