Benefis are for people who have no cash - sorry, but she can't have her cake and eat it.

    All what cash?
she has no cash, all she will have is the money from the sale of the house, but obviously, that will go on buying a new house and paying the solicitor.

It may be worth noting that if someone on a means tested benefit sells their house & doesn't immediately buy another property, the cash from the sale of the house will be disregarded by the dwp for up to 26 weeks while the claimant takes steps to look for another house.

You don't say how old your gf's mum is but if over 55 then she may be wiser to look for a flat intended for the over 55's. These properties are normally much cheaper than usual flats & do have benefits for those who find the upkeep of a house is too much both financially & physically.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

she has no cash, i just mean the cash she will get from the sale of the house.... if she sells for £130k and buys one for £100k. ( pays £10k to solicitor) leaving £20k.
will the government take the remaining money into consideration and stop her benifits?
    can she give it away?
    etc

yes they will take it into account - but as i said earlier find out from CAB or BA how much she is allowed to have - but see Cattie post number 14 - most useful.

When she fills in benefits forms they will want to know how much she sold her first house for and how much she paid for her second one.
