Scottish Power - Online Energy Service - Server Problem

Hi,

This is my first post so apologies if it isn't in the right place.

I received the following letter from Scottish Power this morning:

tinypic.c*m/r/z7ps1/5 - oops not allowed to post links as I'm a new user - replace the * with 'o' to see the letter

I've blacked out the address but it was sent to my house and wasn't addressed to me personally.

Initially, I thought that I might have missed an email/letter from Scottish Power (given that I've just moved house). I went online and signed up for another online account straight away (although on the newer, more expensive, tariff).

About half an hour later I thought I'd have a look for any correspondence from Scottish Power that I might have missed. I couldn't find anything following the welcome email that they sent to me a month or so ago.

I gave them a call and spoke to a lady called Karen. She told me that they had suffered a crash and that all customers who were signed up to an online account had been knocked off them and onto their standard tariff, and that the above letter was sent to try to get me to sign up for an online account again. She put me through to a gentleman in accounts who amended my account and put me back on the tariff that I had originally signed up for.

I thought I'd post here just in case anyone else receives a similar letter to me and just signs up to a new online tariff.

Comments

  • Please beware. I had the same letter on Christmas Eve. After calling them they assured me at was a system error that had only been going on for 3 weeks and if I gave them the details of my tariff and email address they would ups end their system.

Fast forward to this week. I tried to log into my account, but their system did not recognise my email address. I emailed them to request that they update their system and confirm that I was on the correct tariff (online fixed Dec 2012). I received a reply yesterday to say they had updated their system and I was now on their standard monthly direct debit tariff as they no longer offered the Dec 2012 tariff.

This is unacceptable. Firstly, they have had this system problem for a lot longer than the 3 weeks that they claim- there are posts on this forum going back to August 2011 about the same issue.

Secondly, I am not applying for a new tariff, I want the one that I signed up for back in October. They don't seem to understand that I am a new customer who switched suppliers to have this tariff. I have emails and paperwork from them confirming this.

I am now going to have to call them on Monday to find out what is happening. I am wondering whether the Scottish Power representative who answers posts on this forum will reply to this one.

I am seriously regretting moving suppliers now and would not recommend this company to any potential customers.
