Warranty for laptop

I bought a laptop two days ago and now I'm thinking about the warranty or guarantee or something (this salesperson gave me this really patronising speech about the difference between these that I now hate the sound of them).

Anyway, I bought the laptop from Currys and they tried to flog me their anything/whatever insurance thing for 3 yrs @ £169. I told her I didn't want it so she said have a month free and we'll set up a DD that you can cancel within the month if you decide not to.

I know I can get something cheaper online but do I do it now or a year later?

It's not worth buying an extended warranty on laptops unless you think you will need the accidental cover which isn't covered by a standard manufacturer's warranty.

    Was it an expensive laptop?

Not particularly expensive. But I have a 4 yr old and 1 yr old who are far too curious about such things. I am worried they'll drop it or mess around with stuff

Thats what home contents insurance covers.
  • Warranty is a must for any laptop i think, they're the most 'fragile' with so many tiny bits in them that loads of things can go wrong, but these days less so, rarely even, but still.

Try the SquareTrade warranty service. I've been looking into it myself having just bought a 550d camera. Its 48.99 for items between 500-600 and same for 400-500 i believe and gets less for 200-300 and higher for 600-700 and so on.

So if your laptop is less than 600 then i'd say get it [amazon.co.uk/SquareTrade-Warranty-Accident-Protection-%C2%A3500-600/dp/B00448RKDE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1325300070&sr=8-3]

It will only work 60days after item is bought brand new (45 brand new from ebay). And it covers accidents. I'm sure you're home contents insurance will also do something similar.

Anway that squaretrade warranty has some very good reviews, i had a chat to them on the phone, in India, they seem pretty good overall according to the reviews on that amazon page above.
