Layout is irrelevant. What is relevant is whether 'your' meter is actually supplying you and not supplying anyone else.Hi ... the bedsit is the same layout as semi-detatched houses ... the 2 flats downstairs are one bed and the two upstairs are bedsits. All council properties. Me and the lady below have been here a while (well me 3 years and her for 30+ years) but the people next door just moved in this year.
Meter had not been changed in any way since I lived here but not really sure about the whole metric/imperial thing. Sorry ... blonde moment
As for metric vs imperial, if you have an imperial meter and it is suddenly assumed to be metric, this will actually give a 180% increase which is so suspiciously like your recorded increase.
Don't give me 'blonde'. It's your money not mine.

All I was trying to explain was that I don't live in a large block of flats.0 -

What makes you so certain that your meter does not supply anyone else? As I see it, being in a bedsit, you cannot start with the assumption that the meter does not supply another bedsit in the same building. Gas meters don't suddenly start over recording - when they fail they underrecord. And you certainly don't have a leak to atmosphere of that amount of gas. Unless your pattern of use has changed, you need to consider possibilities like someone else using your supplyAll I was trying to explain was that I don't live in a large block of flats.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I am definately going to have it looked into so thank you for your advice. My meter for gas is on the outside of the flat as is the other upstairs flat, but the 2 downstairs flats have their meters indoors. I am going to ring Eon tomorrow to ask if they can come and check things out.0 -
And where does the pipe go from the meter? Can you see it all the way to your bedsit?I am definately going to have it looked into so thank you for your advice. Personally, I would not get eon to it yet. I would become a compulsive gas meter reader, making sure everything is off before going out, taking a reading when leaving and returning, expecting the meter not to advance. I would also turn the gas off at the meter and check that it had turned my gas off.
There are 2 possibilities I see here- The meter you thought was yours is in fact someone else's - and may be someone new has moved in who runs their heating 24*7
- Your supply has been tapped into where it passes through another flat - either innocently or knowingly.
